"The tentacled sea fish is not bad, although if you're not used to it I would suggest that you not eat too much of the sauce. The rest is simple vegetables simmered in a wine sauce," the Romulan answered as he scrapped the sauce off of his own fish.

Zhara nodded and follow suit. "Thank you for the advice," she said.

John eyed his plate with caution, knowing that Romulans were like every other alien species he had encountered. Their idea of delicate food was completely different, and of course some species ate stuff that was completely dangerous for humans to eat. The fish, however, was delicious and he had to remind himself that this was a diplomatic dinner.

Jayde began a conversation with the Romulan across from her as she ate. She'd been exposed to a variety of dishes from throughout the known worlds and enjoyed a spicy dish. Although she wondered why the Romulans had chosen this one in particular to serve their guests.

The dinner proceeded with several more courses, followed by sugared fruit and Romulan Ale.

The Romulan sitting next to Kaiyo bumped against her arm and spilled some of his ale. He stood quickly. "Do Federation pigs not know how to eat?" he spat at the young woman.

Kaiyo's fluffy ears twitched slightly as she raised an eyebrow. "Pigs?" she asked slightly confused. "Oh. I see you are confusing me with some sort of Earth animal. I believe that they eat a varied diet. However my species were not descendant from their line, or planet. So I cannot tell you how one may eat" she explained.

Élan had been enjoying the dinner as well as she could. Diplomacy and fancy dinners weren’t very exciting to her or Val, and to be honest Élan was feeling downright bored. She was almost hoping that something would happen to throw a spark into the dull evening. She was toying with the idea of trying a sip of the Romulan ale when one of the Romulans verbally attacked Kaiyo. Élan bristled, manners were something Romulans prided themselves on and attacking a guest who had done nothing was very un-Romulan like.

Velah was sitting on a stool; legs properly crossed watching the crowd; after all the most people either watch the Orion Girl like a hawk or ignore her like a wall flower at a school dance. She had a nice Romulan version of wine in her hand; potent but Romulan Ale she was raised on but she hated the taste. The commotion of a little person irritating a Romulan. DO people forget that Romulans do enjoy emotional expression upon occasion, especially when liqueur is ingested.

"It was an accident," Jayde said calmly to the irate Romulan. "May I pour you another glass?"

The Romulan glared at her. "And you... A Vulcan sitting with us is bad enough, but to address me in such fashion is an insult!"

He pulled a knife from his belt and turned to Jayde. "I demand you face me."

Jayde turned to the Captain. "Sir?" she asked. She was willing to confront him, but not unless the Captain approved.

John stood angrily, his chair falling over as jumped to his feet. His face was turning red, mostly in anger at the fact that one of their hosts had dared to not only insult two members of his crew but had also challenged one into a duel. "First of all, you were the one who bumped into my officer and insulted her, now you turn your insults towards another Starfleet officer and challenge her to a duel. And what kind of an honorless moron brings a knife to a diplomatic setting?" he snarled.

The Romulan turned to the Captain. "How dare you challenge me, human!" he bellowed.

Jayde stood and inserted herself between the Romulan and the Captain. "I accept your challenge."

Velah looked to the Bartender and waived for the wine to be topped off as she might not get much of a chance to. "And they say Orions cause trouble; we have nothing on humans when it comes to starting trouble." She toasted the Romulan Bartender. "My money is on the Vulcan; care to take the bet?"

The Bartender looked at the growing situation and nod with a raised eyebrow. "Not much to look at.

"But she's got it where it counts." Velah ended.

"Captain, surely you don't want to have this situation escalate," Tavik said as he stood, turning a deadly glare towards the Romulan who had started the trouble.

"If your man stands down and issues a public apology, then I'll be willing to overlook the incident," John said. Fair was fair.

"I demand the right to satisfy my honor from these targs!" the Romulan bellowed, facing Jayde.

"Tivh faerla Klivamsu," John snapped, speaking one of the few Romulan phrases he knew that would ensure a fight with any Romulan who was already itching for a fight. Comparing a Romulan to a Klingon was one way to pick a fight with a calm and rational Romulan, speaking it to one already was just asking for a fight.

"That has to be the Romulan Ale talking." Velah said from her perch on the stool, now that things were starting to escalate; and her style of hand to hand would 'expose her' too much so she decided to follow the Doctor's creed. Besides the Captain told her expressly not to be be involved with any trouble. SO technically she is following orders.

The Romulan lunged at the Captain, deciding he would pay for comparing a Romulan to a Klingon.

Jayde deftly moved into his path. With one hand, she grabbed the wrist with the knife and held it tightly. With the other, she hit him in his elbow, breaking it with a sharp crack.

He roared a challenge in Romulan and tried to grab Jayde, but she stepped out of his way and used a Vulcan Nerve Pinch to drop him. It was the most efficient way to deal with the situation.

Unfortunately, it brought three other Romulans to their feet.

One Romulan came towards Velah and the fire in his eyes told her that there is intent to do harm. Velah gave a smile and rfaised her wine to show she had nothing to do with the events and just because she was in the uniform did ot mean she wanted to fight. He shook his head and turned to find someone more open to his desires to show dominance physically. Velah ; with her other hand swiped a bottle off the bar and with surgiacal and Xenobiological knowledge struck him at the base of the skill shattering the bottle and sending an unconcious man to the ground.

"At least I do not have to patch that one." She remarked turning her attention to the things happening.

As the commotion began, Tristan stood up slowly from his chair, feeling the eyes of several Romulans darting across the room. As he felt one approach him from behind he quickly clenched his fists. "I'd advise against that." He said softly before the Romulan was raised his hand. Tristan's only response was reflex as he quickly raised his arm and slammed his elbow into the Romulan's nose. As the man stood there groggy, Tristan repeated the action two more times until the man fell to the floor. "You were warned, My friend."

John exchanged a sideways glance with the senator as the situation went way beyond control. For his part, Tavik simply shrugged and sat back down, pouring himself a glass as he leaned back in his chair and watched the fight unfolding. John shrugged and moved to stand beside Jayde. Romulans might have their honor, but Jayde wasn't just another Starfleet officer, she was one of his crew and he wasn't about to let her fight off drunk angry Romulans by herself. As the Romulan closest to him lunged, John side stepped and grabbed the Galae officer by the arm while slamming a foot into the back of his knee, forcing the Romulan down. Using the guy's momentum, John guided his opponent's head down to meet the table, hoping it would be enough to at least stun the guy.

The Romulan's head bounced off the table and he crumpled to the floor.

Jayde nodded to the Captain and turned as more Romulans stood to join the fray.

"You lied to me Daniel." Velah called out from her seat. "You said you could take out any Romulan you wanted to anytime." She pointed a contrary finger at Daniel. "You're welcome." She said softly and leaned back on the bar quietly.
