| General Overview | Élan is often friendly, cheerful, and somewhat flirty, although she maintains a professional demeanor while on duty that can sometimes be mistaken for detachment or aloofness. She is very dedicated to her job as a science officer, but she also shares Val's philosophy that one should enjoy life and is therefore willing to try new things. She approaches everything with veiled caution, sometimes appearing to not consider the risks involved. Val is often considered to be an oddity, even among Trill symbionts. She is very young, but has already learned much and is eager to learn more. Val feels that while caution should be observed in all things, it sometimes gets in the way and a being must simply learn to go with 'gut instinct' at times. Val is also very interested in multiple aspects of pleasure and enjoyment, and believes that life should be lived and enjoyed. While young, the Val symbiont has already earned a reputation for being 'difficult', having actually rejected a number of potential hosts because of what can best be described as 'clashes of personality'. |

| Personal History | Val's Previous Hosts: 103 years Katica Val (Female, host for 40 years): Val's first host, Katica was a scholar and a university professor who was a very strict and by the book individual and Val's first taste of conflict of personality. She tried to persuade Val to be more like her and instead set Val on her course to ensure that she never disliked a host again. Val does give credit to Katica for impressing upon the symbiont a very strict attention to detail and guiding Val on having such a force of personality. Zayd Val (Male, host for 22 years): Val's second host, Zayd was the first host that Val choose for herself. Like Val's first host, Zayd was a university professor, but he was also an adventurer and a scientist, starting and taking part in several expeditions to unexplored worlds. He had an uncanny way of looking at things and seemed to have a sixth sense for dangerous situations. He was seriously injured on his last expedition and died on board the Starfleet exploration ship USS Aurora while en route to the Trill home world. Val was removed and transplanted into a Trill officer on board the Aurora. The experience still haunts Val to this day. Kseniya Val (Female, host for 35 years): A Starfleet officer and a scientist, Kseniya had recently graduated from Starfleet Academy and been assigned to the USS Aurora when the science vessel responded to a distress signal from an expedition on an unexplored planet. When the containment field that had been prepared for the Val symbiont failed, the medical team on the Aurora had no choice but to join Val with Kseniya. The union was a success, and Val and Kseniya got along for the most part. Kseniya Val remained in Starfleet for nearly twenty years before retiring from Starfleet and becoming a professor of science at a civilian university. Élan Val (Female, host for 6 years): Élan had recently graduated from both Starfleet Academy and the program required for Trills to become hosts for a symbiont. Like Zayd, Élan was chosen by Val, and they share closeness that Val has never experience with her other hosts. |
