Mission: Into the Raptor's Shadow

John exchanged a sideways glance with the senator as the situation went way beyond control. For his part, Tavik simply shrugged and sat back down, pouring himself a glass as he leaned back in his chair and watched the fight unfolding. John shrugged and moved to stand beside Jayde. Romulans might have their honor, but Jayde wasn't just another Starfleet officer, she was one of his crew and he wasn't about to let her fight off drunk angry Romulans by herself. As the Romulan closest to him lunged, John side stepped and grabbed the Galae officer by the arm while slamming a foot into the back of his knee, forcing the Romulan down. Using the guy's momentum, John guided his opponent's head down to meet the table, hoping it would be enough to at least stun the guy.
The Romulan's head bounced off the table and he crumpled to the floor.
Jayde nodded to the Captain and turned as more Romulans stood to join the fray.
"You lied to me Daniel." Velah called out from her seat. "You said you could take out any Romulan you wanted to anytime." She pointed a contrary finger at Daniel. "You're welcome." She said softly and leaned back on the bar quietly.
-= Conclusion =-
The situation had escalated from a simple disagreement into a full out brawl, to which Élan stood and backed away to the edge of the fight before she stalked around the room towards the bar where Commander Velah was sitting. She had almost made it when one of the younger male officers grabbed her by the arm and sneered as he studied Élan’s figure. Reacting with a woman’s intuition, Élan set her right foot and lashed out with her left in a smooth snap kick that caught the Romulan in the reproductive organs. As he fell to his knees, she followed up with a crushing punch to his face that sent him completely to the floor. Straightening her uniform, Élan continued on towards the bar and sat down next to the Orion medical officer.
"You know Elan." Velah said with her wine glass in hand. "At human bars they generally serve popcorn; I wish we had that right now for this entertaining show." She winked to Elan. "Popcorn would be nice don't you think?"
“Popcorn? Actually, I’d rather settle for a slice of pie or cake, although this situation has more of cashews feel,” Élan said as she sat and watched the fight.
Daniel had been looking at Elan' every chance he'd had all evening, therefore had been mostly unaware of the events leading up to the fight, so when the brawl started he had been caught completely unprepared. "I could have, Velah..." he called out. "But by the time I realized what was happening, it seemed that Jayde had things in hand..." he said as he moved into a position behind Jayde to be of help if needed.
Velah just watched and let him have his moment.
Tristan changed his position, taking a stand next to The Captain and Jayde. His hands immediately went behind him, one to the handle of his sword and the other to the bottom of its sheath, to provide him with a quick opportunity to removed it. "I was wrong." Tristan replied softly, a devilish smile almost began to form on his face. "I find this dinner isn't as boring as I originally thought. However, I must point out that, something of vast importance. My people have a tradition that requires our swords to only be unsheathed to be cleaned or to spill blood. I must admit I have already cleaned it today. I must ask how you wish me to proceed, Captain."
"I'd prefer nonlethal means by our crew, commander," John said as he ducked a punch from a Romulan that had stepped up to attack him. Dropping to one knee, John slammed his fist into the Romulan's knee several times as hard and fast as he could before he jumped back to his feet and slammed the bottom of his boot into the front of the guy's kneecap. A sick sounding crunch could be heard as the Romulan howled and fell. Turning back to his intelligence officer, he shook his head. "Keep it put up, we can handle this without having it get bloody," he said.
Tristan shrugged slightly as he removed his hands from his sword and sheath. He took a standard fighting postion before replying to the Captain with. "As you wish."
Jayde pulled the bar from her belt and pushed a button. It expanded into a staff and she held it in a defensive stance, ready to take on the next assailant.
John heard a noise and turned towards Jayde in time to see her fighting staff expand. "You actually brought a weapon to a diplomatic dinner?" he asked out loud before he shook his head. "Never mind," he added, mostly talking to himself.
Zhara was on the wrong side of the table, away from where the others were fighting. This wasn't a bad thing, as Zhara wasn't much of a fighter. She noticed Velah and Élan by the bar and decided it was safer to get away from the table while she could.
"Hello Zhara." Velah greet her friend. "We were just bringing up how popcorn would be nice." SHe commented. "I think the Captain will be giving us extra time in the Holo Spa for being such Good girls and staying out of trouble. Though I do believe Jayde might be late for the event."
Zhara nodded. "If she doesn't end up in sickbay."
She stood, taking her glass with her. She heard someone knock over a chair and turned to see one of the Romulans pulling a knife as he ran towards the others. With a deft move, she tripped him, then broke her wine glass on the back of his head as he fell. "Oops," she said contritely. "Clumsy me."
She hurried over to the other women before she got in anyone else's way.
Jayde stepped far enough away from Tristan and the Captain to have room to fight and quickly took out another Romulan with her staff.
"You know I think I won the bet." Velah said to the Batender. "How many has she taken out; I lost count?"
The Bartender placed an unopened bottle of Romulan wine on the bar without saying another word.
Velah smiled. "See girls we have something to share while soaking out cares away.
Zhara, who had arrived at the bar, just shook her head. "As long as we don't get kicked out of Romulan territory."
"I doubt that." Velah said after a sip of wine. "I am sure the Romulan High Command will want this swept under the carpet so to speak; here is the first real interaction and a fight breaks out to ruin the possibility of an alliance. No, they will slap both command staffs for not 'keeping their heads' and call it as never having happened." She took another sip. "That is if it even gets past this room; I have expected Romulan Security to be here sooner?
"Tristan, if we stand back to back, we should be able to take care of any of them who still want to take us on," Jayde said quietly.
Tristan smirked slightly as he placed himself behind Jayde, standing back to back as she requested.
"I'm here as well," Divaro said, loud enough for her to hear.
Kaiyo hung upside down from a light fitting that she had used her tail to grab a hold of. She didn't really see the point of fighting, so she just hung there by her tail, swaying back and forth over peoples heads.
"I do not endeavour to be rude, or not possess manners. However I would wish for this incident to cease" she said simply with a small smile. She looked down at a few Romulans who were trying to pull her down by grabbing her long ears, but failing as she swung on the light.
One of the Romulans muttered several unkind comments about monkeys and turned to look for something he could use to knock the creature from the ceiling.
A group of Romulans encircled John, Jayde, Tristan Balor and Divaro. Most were unarmed, but one or two were armed with short knives. John briefly thought about ordering the Hyperion to beam everyone out, but instantly ruled against it. No doubt that would make things worse. The best thing to do was to end this before it got really out of hand. "Jayde, get the knives. Guys, cripple them if you have to, but put these guys down now," he said in a growl.
Tristan slowly began to removed his gloves as his eyes began to close. He placed himself in a calm state, allowing every noise, every image, and every distraction faded away until it was nothing. As he opened his eyes again, a smile formed on his face as all he heard was silence, just as one of the Romulan's approached him aggressively. With little effort, Tristan used his momentum against him and flipped him over onto his back. He drew back his hand and brought down a heavy fist, into the mans chest which would cause him to gasp for a breath.
Next, Tristan quickly brought his arm up, anticipating the second Romulan who had came up from behind him with a knife and attempted to bring it down on the Chief of Intelligence. With a slight twist, Tristan turned the Romulan's wrist, forcing him to drop the knife. As the knife fell, Tristan delivered a quick jab to the mans gut, followed by a second to his chest before catching the knife in his hand. He than leaped up slightly, extending his knee upwards as it connected with the Romulan's chin, sending him backwards and onto the floor.
A third Romulan ran towards him, but this one was easily dealt with. Tristan, however, had to do this quickly. Once the the man was in range, he threw his hand outward toward him, throwing the knife from his hand into his gut. As quickly as the knife went in, it was suddenly remove, and flew back into Tristan's hand. As the third Romulan fell, Tristan clenched his fist around the hand of the knife and turn, bringing it downward and back toward the first Romulan. The first Romulan was just about to sit back up, only to be met by Tristan's first and be knocked back down.
Tristan just stood there for a few seconds in his stance, engulfed by the silence. He opened his hand, allowing the knife to fall to the ground and hit it with a strong clang before turning to face a few Romulans. His expression was calm, but his eyes were intense as he looked over to them, as if daring them to approach. The approaching Romulans just stopped and began to walk back.
Jayde knocked a knife out of one Romulan's hand with her staff, knocking the man down with a second blow. She then used the staff to balance herself as she kicked the second knife out of another Romulan's hand. She landed and spun, hitting him twice with her staff.
Jayde turned to the rest of the room. "Stand down. We came in peace, pray let us leave that way."
"Indeed," Senator Tavik said as he stood. He issued an order in Romulan to which the uniformed officers present began to file out of the room. A few paused to help their wounded exit the room, leaving the Hyperion officers with the senator and his house servants.
John stood from where a Romulan had knocked him to the floor and spared a quick glance towards his own crew. Jayde, Balor, and Divaro were standing with him at the center of the room, Kaiyo was hanging from the chandelier, and Rynn, Velah, and Val were all sitting at the bar, drinking and watching. Turning to face the senator, he straightened his uniform and wondered if there was any way to salvage this. "Senator, I must ..."
"There is no need for any formal declarations, Captain. I'm sure your officers are eager to return to your ship, and I must have a word with you in private," Tavik interrupted John with a wave of his hand. "Your officers may return to your ship. Once we finish talking, you will be free to begin your exploration mission of the Empire at any time."
John frowned, confused, but he turned towards Commander Jayde. "Make sure everyone gets back to the Hyperion safely. I'll want to talk to you as soon as I'm back on board," he said.
"Yes, sir," Jayde said.
"Now that does seem anti-climatic." Velah remarked and gave another look at the Diplomat. "And might I ask when Senators got the pull to say a few words and stop a conflict?" She took another long drink to finish her wine and then gently took her 'winnings' and was slipping off the bar stool. "Thanks for the drink." Remarking while giving the Bartender a wink.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Jayde said to the rest of the away team. "Regroup at the beam-down point so we may return to the ship."
Élan finished the glass of spiced tea she had managed to grab from someone and stood. She was perhaps one of the most eager to return to the ship, and not only for the tension that was perhaps brewing in the background of everyone involved in the fight. She was uncomfortable being on Romulus, a feeling that she suspected was more from Val than anything else. Stepping over towards the door leading out to the beam down point, Élan spared several moments to scan the gathered officers until she spotted Kaiyo. Seeing that her officer was fine, Élan nodded and continued on outside.
John gave his senior officers a stiff formal nod as they filed out of the now destroyed dining room before he started over to where the senator was waiting to speak to him.
"Seems we got off rather easy and Daniel could not even prove me wrong; guess that little Spa time is going to be earlier than expected." Velah smiled with glee. "We just have to make sure Jayde is reminded of her attendance, with subtle grace of course."
Hearing Velah's comment, Daniel fixed her with a direct look. "By the time I was able to get to where the confrontation was, it appeared that everything was well in hand," he said. "I had their backs--but my jumping in when everything was under control would have been superfluous...and might have antagonized them even more."
Zhara just grinned. "If nothing else, everyone had a chance to let off some steam. I think we'll have a much easier time in Romulan territory now." At least she hoped so.
When everyone but the Captain had assembled, Jayde tapped her combadge. "Mira to Hyperion, beam us up. The Captain will join us shortly."
