| Physical Description | Velah is a well developed Orion female thanks to the gentic heritage; she has maintained her figure and her looks despite nearing her forth decade roaming the universe. She is a pleasent sort and her hair has a body wave to it that took her years to perfect. SHe has distinct Latina accent as she was raised in Spain on Earth from her 10th year until she enterd Medical training. SHe has what are called 'Gams' which are finely toned dancing legs and a body figure that accents her legs. Dancing comes naturally to Orions and Velah is a skilled dancer of many venues and she dresses much of the time to highlight her legs and long back. Her face has come to smiling more so than anything else yet it can fip to the 'Ferciousness' of the Orion Reputation in a flash. Her voice is one that is soothing and her singing is very soft on teh ears when she is of a mood. |

| General Overview | Velah is a smart and strong persona within her own skin, she has infleunces from being raised on Earth after being a slave as a small girl. She was a problem in her teen years as no matter how hard she tried she would end up 'leaking' her heritage and getting into trouble. The voluntary injections help her stabilize her Orion pheromones and her biochemistry but when extreme attraction or lack of activity arise she can revert to her 'Orion Nature.' As a doctor; the part of her self that is dominant; her entire being is focused on healing of her patients, she has a motherly nature about her bed side manner before she had a child. She would defend her patients with the ferocious nature of an Orion. She has also used that focus in working to save a life with less that positive chances of survival. Her one double edged sword is her Medical discipline; she had made hard calls between two patients and saved those she can. Later seen later in a private place crying her eyes out for those she lost. |

| Personal History | Being born an Orion she fell immediately into servitude; her mother was 'entertainment' on a gambling ship that was always careful to stay well out of Federation Space. It was a nest of evern Sin her Human 'family' would tell her about. Yet despite what all the humans thoght to her it was a home; a place she belonged. Velah did not know any better for the first decade of her life; her mother was nervous that upon reaching 'womanhood' Velah would be pressed into the 'service' industry; the ship hd a navigational error and ventured into Federation Space at the same time A federation vessel was patrolling. It seemed like a comedy of error on the part of the Orion held vessel. A distress came as the Main drives failed and the life support began to dwindle. A massive computer failure was finally found to be the cause, but why it failed never came to light. Velah was a free child; her mother a freed slave girl and migrated to Earth. Velah's mother would not leave the planet; no way would she pace herself in range of being a slave again. She took up a career as a dancer; some less 'formal' style to help support her daughter and her lifestyle as meager as it was. Velah did mature into a teen and her 'Heritage' became a full swing, she had not realized it at first as it was something simple; a part of her being, she also had to learn to be both alone and popular at the same time. To help her learn discipline since she was in South America; Brazil, Velah learned Capoera style Martial Arts to argument her dancing training and help focus her energies AN Orion who could get any man she desired was a problem and the frequent trips to the Medical facility while balancing the Pheromones of a maturing young girl meant minor trace changes in her medication as her body grew. The Doctor was a man of forty at the time; he took a liking to the young girl and her mother, soon marrying Velah's mother. Having a Doctor meant strange hours and constant being 'in Doctor mode' yet he showed genuine affection towards Velah. She respected him and wanted to be like him, in her heart she wanted to help people and be social. As an Orion in a free society she had to get her own path. Dr. Monroe let her tag along and answered many of her questions; noting she had very good questions and a desire to learn, eventually Velah had the same training and knowledge as a first responder by the time she was in high school. She was a student 'EMT' at her school for her junior and senior year. Then came the decision to enter the field of medicine; she began training and could have gone to college but with her aptitude she earned an 'Advancement' in the Academy Medical Program if she were to go through Star Fleet. She made the aceptance criteria with honors and had with her experience came in a year ahead of her peers. Hitting the second year of Medical at the Academy was stress and hard work that Velah took to like a fish. She had a tendency to delve into her work as though proving she is more than just a pretty Orion Chick as some of the boys called her. Determined to graduate well she cut her social life so to focus; still her biology did not allow total immersion in her studies, a girl has needs. Yet with the distractions and hard curriculum she managed to be in the top 6% of her medical class and do the program a year ahead of her entry peers. She did post academy work on her Cadet cruise with the USS Lady Teresa a Medical ship. While on patrol she proved her worth when the ship answered a distress of a passenger liner attacked by Pirates, the Lady Tersa had taken a trap; the Pirates raided while the Federation vessel was redering aid and had to break off, leaving Velah and the Medical team on the damaged liner. Seeing that she had little choice she stayed with the wounded as the Pirates came for another round of robbery; the medical supplies were also taken. Using what little she could find or replicate Velah and the team continued to work with the patients. Her role in this earned her a promotion. While serving aboard the USS William F. Halsey, she met Ensign Daniel Divaro, an engineering officer, in 2378. They began dating and were married by the captain of the Halsey in 2379. In 2380 their daughter Sassi was born. In 2381 they were both transferred to the USS Morningstar--he as a warp core specialist and she as a medical officer. She served as assistant Chief Medical Officer aboard the Morningstar for four years with the rank of Lieutenant before the both of them were transferred to Starbase 171 in 2385. In 2389, Daniel was offered the position of Chief Engineer aboard the USS Indianapolis with the rank of Lieutenant Commander, while Velah was made Chief Medical Officer of Starbase 171 and also promoted to Lieutenant Commander. Neither of them wanted to give up the ranks or offered positions they had, so the decision was made for Daniel to ship out with the Indianapolis while Velah remained on 171 with their daughter Sassi. They tried to maintain a long-distance relationship, but, as many relationships of that sort do, it did not last, and Velah petitioned for and was granted a dissolution of their marriage in 2390. Star Base 171 became her home and she was the Chief Medical officer after a time, her daughter did not see her father much after his shipping out. She did not mind being a single mother; even doting upon her daughter a bit; depite the bastard Father who kept insisting he wanted more custody of Sassi. The court battles with JAG went on and on and eventually it was deemed that the Father had rights, that meant not bringing the Ex-husband to 171 but a lateral transfer to the Hyperion, she was going ito space again after trying to get a really grounded assignment to a Star Base she was on a Star Ship. This is not what she had planned on her career, but the rat bastard did have rights to his daughter. Velah really did love him they just had grown apart. She knew he loved his daughter but will never admit it to him . She accepted the transfer with one side benefit, she could make Daniel pay for not devoting more of himself to the family. USS Hyperion accepted her Transfer. |
