Mission: Ghost of a Chance
USS Hyperion, Bridge
Ael'isha glared towards the Starfleet officer Smoak one final time before she turned her attention to the newcomer on the bridge. She was already getting in a bad mood and now her guardsmen had brought her something else to deal with. "And who are you?" she asked, her tone somewhat snapping.
"Zhara Rynn, Chief Counselor. And as the Counselor, I know most of the personnel on this ship."
"And what do you want?" Ael'isha snarled. she was already having a bad day and the last thing she wanted was another distraction.
"I'm here to be of assistance," Zhara said. "If you require it." Assistance to the captain, but she wasn't going to add that. Any information she could gather would help her understand what was going on and give her an idea of how best to deal with the situation. "I am a counselor. My job is to counsel."
"Oh? And I suppose you have something to counsel me on at this moment?" Ael'isha said.
"That depends. Do you have any questions?" Zhara asked.
"Only if you can explain why you pathetically weak humans are so hard headed and annoyingly stubborn," Ael'isha growled.
Zhara smiled. "I'm not human. Humanoid, yes, but not human. I believe to answer that question you must look at their history. They are a resilient species."
"Like bugs," Ael'isha hissed. She hated bugs, but she was beginning to hate humans more.
While everyone's attention had shifted, Jason quickly tapped on the console. He adjusted the course and slightly decreased the speed. He then placed his hands back on the sides of the helms console and turned to face Zhara. His brow raised slightly, unsure of who she was and whether this situation had just gotten bad or worse. He watched the events unfold, cautious of what might happen.
Ael'isha sighed and started to shake her head and turn towards her senior lieutenant when the ship shook slightly and a bank of alarms rang out. "What now?" she said out loud as she spun towards Smoak, her eyes narrowing in suspicion automatically.
"Lady, there was an explosion recorded in the brig. We've lost contact with our security team that was down there," one of Ael'isha's senior centurion reported.
There was no noticeable change in the odor emanating from the air filtration system, but the gas Jayde had released had made its way to the bridge and was now spreading through the area. It would only take a minute or two for everyone on the bridge to be affected.
Ael'isha started to snap her orders, but she shook her head and yawned instead. All around the bridge, everyone started falling asleep. "Wha... what is this?" she muttered before she collapsed on the deck.
Jayde waited just long enough for the air to clear before she entered the bridge. She immediately went over to Jason and checked to see if he was okay. Then she checked Zhara.
"Computer, beam Commander Smoak and Lieutenant Rynn to sickbay. Voice and retinal authorization, Mira Jayde."
She waited for the two to de-materialize. "Computer, now transport the Romulans to the brig and put up a force field.
When that was done, she sat at the Captain's chair and tried to take back control of the ship, but she was locked out. Smoak? Probably. No one else on the bridge would think to do something like that.
Fortunately, as the First Officer, she could override the lockout. Once she proved to the computer that she did, indeed, have the authority to do so. that took longer than she wanted it to. But at last, she had regained access. She then set the computer so that only herself, Captain Theisman, and Commander Smoak had access to the bridge controls.
"Computer, where is Captain Theisman?" she asked.
"Captain Theisman is in the brig."
Of course he was. "Mira to Csira."
"Jayde?"
"Yes. Can you get to the brig?"
"Umm...yeah. Why?"
"Release Captain Theisman and anyone who's with him."
"Is it safe?"
"Only if you get there quickly. Take a phaser. And when you're done, make sure whoever is in charge of sickbay wakes up Commander Smoak. We're going to need him."
"Got it. On my way. Csira out."
"Mira to Theisman."
"Theisman here, go ahead," John said as he stuggled to carry Maberu out of the brig. "Please tell me that we've regained control of the ship and security is on the way down here."
"I've regained control of the ship. Smoak and Rynn are in sickbay. I'm not sure where security is being held right now. They were one of the first targets. I've been hesitant to put out a general call."
"Don't put out a general call. We don't know where everyone else is or their status. For now only maintain contact with those who you're positive are not compromised by the Romulans. Be advised that we've started a break out of the brig, and Sevena is with us. CPO Maberu is severely injured and Lieutenant Sato needs to get her to sickbay. If you know of anyone who can escort me me to the bridge, then I can send Sevena with Sato to sickbay," John said as he tried to think of how to best adjust to this change of events.
"I sent Iona to you. She should be there shortly," Jayde said. "Smoak and Rynn are in sickbay. I asked Iona to get someone to wakt them up. Smoak can tell you what happened on the bridge, and rally security."
"Have Csira meet us at the security station near sickbay and try to find a way to get in contact with the Helios. We need to warn them if they don't know what's going on or warn them off if they're planning anything stupid," John said as he redoubled his efforts to carry Maberu out of the brig.
"Yes, sir. Mira out."
Miko muttered softly under her breath as the captain started hurrying out of the brig with the wounded chief engineer. She was glad that they were now heading to sickbay, but she was just as equally confused as to what exactly was going on as well.
USS Helios
Élan turned towards her console and frowned as she read an update from the sensors. After a moment, the Trill leaned back in her seat. "Commander, sensors just detected an internal explosion on the Hyperion. There doesn't seem to be any major damage to the ship," she reported.
"Are we still in range to transport?" Velah asked. "That might be the distraction we needed to get across undetected while they deal with the explosion?"
"We are in range," Liang said.
Élan raised her eyebrows and nodded. "We're inside the range of the transporters and they'll be distracted. All we need to do is select a suitable beam in point and get to it," the Trill said.
"Bridge controls and sensors appear unaffected," Liang said, not giving any indication in her voice as to what she thought of what Val was considering. She was simply here as security.
Jayde sent an encrypted message to Liang on the Helios using one of the methods they used to use to pass messages. "Liang, tell Lieutenant Val that Captain Theismann wants her to stay out of site and not to do anything to get in trouble."
Liang looked at Val. "Ma'am, I have a message from Commander Mira." When she had the lieutenant's attention, she relayed the message.
Élan read the message twice before she nodded and settled into her seat. Nodding, she reached out and entered a series of commands which would keep the Helios from being detected by both the Hyperion and the Romulan ship. "Alright, the captain wants us to sit here and wait, so that's exactly what we'll do," the Trill said, clearly not completely happy about being left out along the sidelines.
Liang didn't like the idea of sitting there, either, but she relayed hte message and waited.
