Mission:
Into the Raptor's Shadow
Location: Holodeck 2
[OLD]
"Okay I suppose," he said carefully. He had no intention of bringing up his and Elan's breakup--especially with Elan' being right there. If Velah didn't know about it already, ships' scuttlebutt would ensure that she found out soon enough. "I like the fact that I get to see our daughter on a regular basis now." He let a small grin show as he continued. "And something tells me that, before long, I may have to start guarding her with a phaser from all the young men aboard ship."

"Tranquilizer guns are more painfully humane." Velah said half hearted as she also studied the people running this test.
Zhara walked in, dressed in a casual jumpsuit of a soft deep red fabric. "Hello," she said to the group.
Tristan walked slowly into the holodeck. His sword strapped to his back and his hair tied back into a tail. He wore his Intel uniform, but also his wolfs medallion around his neck. He paused slightly, taking a moment to look around before walked off to the side to observe.
Jayde nodded in greeting to the arrivals.
John casually walked into the holodeck at a slow pace and paused as he took in the setting. It was notably different from most other phaser qualification training sessions he had been to, but every instructor had their own method and he wasn't about to question a specialist who had the job of making sure that everyone could defend themselves. Walking over to the group that had already gathered, he nodded formally towards everyone and settled in to wait.
Jayde nodded to the Captain and turned back to Liang.
"Now that we are gathered," she said, "I would like you each to take a phaser. They are specially modified to shoot short bursts on stun only. They will do for the initial demonstration."
She waited for everyone to take a phaser. While they did so, she and Jayde pulled out wooden staves that had a glossy shine to them.
"You going to let us play with other toys?" Velah said with a bright smile. "You should have told me, I would have brought my toys as well." Thinking how the fact she had worn bloomers under her skirted uniform as her legs were clear if she needed.
"You'll have a chance to use your toys later," Liang assured her.
"The game," Liang explained, "Is to see if you can shoot us with the phasers. You each get three shots."
"Not so easy as you make it sound." Velah said as she checked the Phasers; hoping to find a type one, she found she could handle them easier than the standard type II? "IS this a one on one or group; thing?" She asked. "For my passing do I have to achieve this on my own merits or can we help one another?"
"No helping each other," Jayde said. "That will defeat the purpose of this part of the training."
"Don't worry Velah..." Daniel said with a grin. "If your shooting skills are as sharp as your tongue, you'll have no problems."
"It is that way because you sharpened it." Velah looked at Daniel for a second and then away not really caring about the reply.
"Now, each of you, take three shots at us. You can take three shots at one person, or you can shoot at both of us," Liang said. "As you can see, we do not have phasers of our own."
Velah cocked her eyebrow; she could tell a set up from a mile away, she knew well that these two were confidant and had many of the angles covered. She would hold back a bit and wait for further explanation and ask what she did not know?
John hid a smirk as he took his phaser and eyed the two security officers. He had an idea of what they had planned, but what he didn't know was if the staves they had would merely absorb the pahser blasts or reflect them. Deciding that he would go first, he took a step forward and without warning fired three shots as quickly as he could from three different angles towards the master chief petty officer.
Liang deftly deflected the first two and simply bent backwards and to the side to avoid the third. "Very good, Captain," she said, giving the senior officer a polite nod while still remaining alert to the actions of the others. It would not do to lose focus simply to acknowledge the first strike.
Daniel picked up a phaser, then grinned at Velah. "Touche'..." he said, referring to her comeback. He knew that a lot of their problems had been due to his actions and given the chance he might have done things differently but the past could not be changed and it was water beneath the bridge now.
Élan stood to the side and slightly away from everyone, watching the instructors as the captain fired his phaser first. Silently, she could sense Val stirring and ‘observing’ along with her. The symbiont was somewhat interested in different self defense techniques and had acquired a somewhat impressive ‘library’ of different styles. Phaser training wasn’t as high on either of their lists of interests, but it was a pleasant enough distraction for the moment.
Velah hated phasers; her having to pass the training was just something she had to do, and something told her that this is not going to be so easy.
Divaro stepped up to the firing line, phaser in hand, and tried not to let the fact that Elan' was near distract him. That, coupled with the fact that his ex-wife was also watching, made him just a bit nervous so figuring to get past it as quickly as possible he fired three shots in quick succession--two at Liang and one at Jayde.
Liang quickly deflected the two shots. Jayde decided to use the reflective surface of her staff to send the phaser burst back at Divaro.
Élan watched thoughtfully as the others took their shots. With Val’s experience, she knew that phasers fired too slowly for any of them to hit either of the highly trained professionals. Instead of taking a shot, she silently watched.
Tristan observed the others attempt to land a shot on Jayde, and Liang, several times before it came to his turn. He paused for a moment, looking over to Jayde and Liang before placing the phaser back down on the table. "Given your training, the way the phaser has be adjusted, and your choice of weapon the task is in your favor. I see no point in attempting something that was clearly altered to be in your favor. However, I am interested to see more so please continue."
