Mission:
Into the Raptor's Shadow
Location: Holodeck 2

Jayde and Liang spent several hours talking about the best way to get the crew interested in weapons training and recertification. Neither of them wanted it to be a simple point at the target and shoot scenario, that was far too easy and not very realistic. At the same time, they also wanted to make a point that security would expect more from the crew than the ability to point a phaser.
They had a real-life scenario on the holodeck that would test the mettle of the crew, but first both decided a basic evaluation and game would be in order.
Invitations were sent out and the two arrived at the holodeck, now set to look like a medieval field complete with banners and a distant castle. Both women were dressed in simple tunics and breeches. Now, to wait for the others.
Velah hated this kind of an invitation; but then she did have to make her rating and it was not as though she had needed to fire all that many times but she at least knew which end of the phaser fired from. She acknowledged the invitation; a nice way to say she had better show up, and thought about if slacks were going to be more appropriate? She wore a skirted uniform so she would wear that as well in this and just make sure of the black bloomers to match the skirt color. She would have the stockings option as well just to be safe and more professional.
She had the belt that fit under her jacket to hold the phaser and a tricorder; standard Away Team gear, as she entered the holodeck. Looking around at the surroundings she spoke before she really thought.
"I-I hope you have gear for riding side saddle?" She remarked.
Liang bowed to the woman. "We have everything you will need. Welcome, Commander Velah."
Velah crossed her legs behind her and gave a curtsy. "This is not the standard shooting trials." Velah smiled. "I have never fired a phaser from horseback; a revolver yes but not a phase, should be easier, no recoil?""
"Well, we may not end up on horseback," Jayde replied, glancing at Liang.
"It all depends on what you do," Liang added.
"My... attire is wrong for horseback if I can avoid it, but if my scores are not good enough can I for extra credit?" She smiled. "Make a real Annie Oakley type given a chance?"
Liang giggled. "You may find that you do better than you think you will."
Élan was dressed in one of her usual outfits that included a corset but this one had pants and a pair of thigh high boots. She hadn’t expected to get an invitation to a security based training session on the holodeck, but she was at least going to be comfortable and hopefully prepared for anything that the vicious security officers had thought up for the training. In the very few other training sessions she had taken part in on other star ships, the majority had been simple qualification evaluations while one or two had been a full on training scenario. As she stepped through the doors and onto the holodeck, Élan blinked in surprise as she took in the field before she continued over to the group of officers.
“I certainly hope that we’re not going back to the basics and starting off with jousting and basic hand to hand combat training today,” Élan said with a hint of a smile.
Liang shook her head. "No, but sometimes we need to be reminded that simple things are often more effective."
When Daniel arrived on the holodeck for the scheduled training session, he noticed that several others, including Elan', had already arrived. Making a conscious effort, although a not completely successful one, to avoid looking at her, he quietly stood off to one side and waited to see what would take place.
Velah noticed Daniel off to the side; he was avoiding something; he might even start sulking given a chance by the efforts he seemed to be putting out. A lot of time under the bridge from their marriage gave her some insights into his moods of the past. Gauging his expression he was not comfortable being here; she had two options, she could avoid him like the plague or just make him a bit less comfortable than he already is? The choices were both tempting but in the end it would be a long seven years and it was really no fun feeling like she is kicking a sad puppy. She decided to be nice.
She whistled. "Come on Daniel join the group I quit biting you years ago." Velah smiled in what humans called a cute way from cheek to cheek.
"In that case, why would I want to come over there?" he asked, still not sure if he wanted to join them or not. The breakup with Elan' was still too new. "What would there be to anticipate?" he added, able to muster a slight grin.
"Some fun; I hear we are playing with Phasers today; we get the fun toys." SHe winked. "And you know teachers always call for volunteers from the back at the beginning, you want to be first one volunteered?"
"I suppose that would depend on what I'm being volunteered for," he said as he made his way over to the group. He didn't want to appear rude so he guessed he just needed to tough it out and make the best of things. "Are you settling in well?"
"Yes, I even get to have a little fun once in a while." Velah gave him a genuine grin. "I thought I would have more idle time compared to the last assignment but no dice I am as busy as always." She chuckled."Sassy seems to be getting on pretty well so all is good on the home front." She tilt her head. "How about your part of the Hundred acre woods?"
"Okay I suppose," he said carefully. He had no intention of bringing up his and Elan's breakup--especially with Elan' being right there. If Velah didn't know about it already, ships' scuttlebutt would ensure that she found out soon enough. "I like the fact that I get to see our daughter on a regular basis now." He let a small grin show as he continued. "And something tells me that, before long, I may have to start guarding her with a phaser from all the young men aboard ship."
