Mission: The Genesis Legacy
Location: Hyperion

[CONTINUED]

[OLD]

Smoak eased the shuttle in to its spot in the shuttle bay and shut it down. As soon as he lowered the ramp to the Koa Manō, as expected, he was met by security and soon escorted to the bridge in his civilian clothes. The trip to the bridge wasn't as long as he expected, but once the turbolift doors opened he couldn't help but notice how busy it seemed to be. Officers going back and forth, between station and station, trying to stay on top of whatever situation they were dealing with. Jason had no idea what was going on, but he could tell they were working at top efficiency. Jason was soon directed further into the controlled chaos and toward the commanding officer.

[NEW]

"Looks like you got yourself a bit of a situation, Captain. Any chance I can get filled in on what's going on?" He said calmly and with a bit of a smile. He stood there with a pair of jeans, boots, and black muscle shirt. His tattoos and tribal necklace clearly visible by anyone. In an attempt to look somewhat professional, his dreads were tied back and into a slight tail with only one dread still hanging on the side of his face.

Iona had a good look at the newcomer. Then she turned back to her comms.

John looked up from the command display and frowned at the civilian dressed man standing before him. Tapping a control on the side panel display, he closed the command console and stood. "And you are?" he asked in a carefully neutral but polite tone.

"Lieutenant Commander Jason Smoak. You're new Chief of Security and Tactical." Jason extended his hand and continued. "My apologies for being out of uniform, but I got the impression you needed me up here in a hurry for some kind of emergency. Your escorts wouldn't let me in on what was going on."

"It is standard Starfleet policy for officers to arrive in uniform when using Starfleet craft for transport," John said as he shook Smoak's hand. "As for what's going on, engineering is trying not to lose our dorsal pod and we have an away team exploring an asteroid for life signs. Just a normal day without the Romulan filled fist fight."

"You're correct, Captain. However, the Koa Manō is my personal craft and, had it not sounded like and emergency I would have come up here with my uniform on. In your defense, you had no way of knowing that information when I arrived." Jason said before gesturing to the xo chair by the Captain. "May I?"

"No one told me that you had a personal shuttle," John said with a slightly chilled and unhappy undertone to his voice as he waved to the guest chair on the other side of his command chair for Smoak to sit in. We'll have to find a storage bay for it, since we won't have any room in the shuttlebay when the Helios gets back."

Jason sat down in the guest chair and cleared his throat a bit. "Again, you had no way of know, and I don't mind sending someone to come pick it up and fly it back. My intention isn't to alter anything your doing here, just do my job and contribute in any way I can."

"We may have to do that. But I'm sure Commander Jayde will enjoy having someone take over security and tactical. Have you had time to go over the reports I've managed to send SFC?" John said.

"Yes." Jason replied with a nod. Commander Mira Jayde. Can't wait to see her again. He said mentally as he leaned back in the chair. He couldn't imagine her as an XO, let alone his boss. From what he picked up on from the Captain's body language, he was already coming on board with a bad first impression and now, with the Elf as his XO, he was sure to receive much more hassle along the way. It's not like he wasn't used to it. Good thing about Jason was he could take it.

Divaro was trying to direct Setek to push the pod back in place, hoping that they would be able to hurry up and get back inside the ship. He made a quick, choppy motion with his hand and Setek, the half witted Vulcan that he was, slammed on the workbee thrusters a little too hard. The Hyperion's pod slammed into the rollbar, making contact long enough for the ship's automatic magnetic grav locks to automatically latch onto the connection points. Unfortunately, the pod also slammed into Divaro and his senior assistant, Lieutenant Walker, throwing both of them against the hull and knocking them out.

=======

John had opened his mouth to ask Smoak a question when the Hyperion seemed to lurch forward and down. A low thud that he knew could only be something slamming against the hull was immediately followed by a series of alarms. "Report!" John barked.

"I've lost contact with Lieutenant Divaro. Adjusting cams now," Iona said, quickly flipping through external cameras to see if she could get a good image. The only one that came close showed a leg dangling in space. "Hyperion to EVA team. What happened?"

=======

"Setek to Hyperion. The pod is locked in place. We have two engineers who are in need of medical assistance and need to be beamed to sickbay. I am returning the workbee to the shuttlebay," Setek reported as he banked the workbee pod towards the shuttlebay.

Iona looked to the captain for his orders.

"Lock onto the injured officers and beam them directly to sickbay," John ordered. "Alert medical to prepare for incoming wounded."

Iona switched to the internal comms. "Bridge to sickbay, prepare for wounded." Then she locked on to the two injured engineers and beamed them to sickbay.

Jason sat there in the guest chair and couldn't help but feel, that had he not been rushed on board so quickly, he could have done something while on board the Koa Manō from the outside of the ship.

"Ops, can you confirmed that they managed to lock the pod back in place?" John asked.

Iona checked and then nodded. "Yes, sir. The pod appears to be properly locked down, all systems are once again operational."

"Very well," John said with a nod. "Helm, reactivate primary impulse and warp engine systems and secure from emergency station keeping. Science and Ops, run full diagnostics on all pod related systems." Standing, he turned to Smoak and held his hand behind his back. "Mister Smoak, would you like to get settled in before assuming your duties as chief of security and tactical?"

Iona nodded and turned back to her console to once again take comms offline for another full diagnostic.

"Absolutely." Smoak replied, tapping his hands on the arms of the guest chair, before standing up and looking down toward the Captain. "I'll return to the Koa Manō for my things and get settled into my quarters. Won't take me long to get in uniform and come back to begin working. That is, of course, if the Captain is officially dismissing me."

"You're dismissed for now, Mister Smoak. get settled in. Just be sure to bring your transfer orders when you report in for duty," John said with a small smile and a nod.

When the diagnostic was completed, Iona turned to the captain and grinned. "All systems are back and working properly, sir."

"Very well," John said with a nod as he made himself sit down again. "Contact the Helios and see if we can get an update please."

"Aye, sir." Iona turned back to her comms. "The shuttle is trying to contact us, sir. Putting it onscreen."
