1,092 words; about a 5 minute read

Mission: The Genesis Legacy
Location: Hyperion

"Actually, have him suit up and get one of the workbees or even a Sphinx craft checked out. He may have to clear it with ops first," Divaro said.

John was trying hard to resist the urge to start pacing across the bridge. The Hyperion bridge was large enough, but it wouldn't do for a crew to see their captain start getting nervous. He finally turned towards operations. "Miss SCsira, have you heard anything from engineering?"

"Not yet," Iona said. "I lost comms when they switch to EVA." She called to Divaro, but got no response.

"Hyperion to engineering. What is the status of the EVA team?"

"We don't know. They haven't said anything."

Iona turned on the externals to see if she could get a visual on the team.

Jason finished his food and decided to take a break from reading the Hyperion files. He walked over to his classic Motorcycle and pulled the tarp to the side to begin working on it. After a few more hours, and a couple more Elvis songs, the music stopped suddenly as the alert tone sounded throughout the Argo interior. Jason placed the tools down and grabbed the rag off his shoulder and began to clean his hands as he stood up and looked toward the front of the Koa Manō.

"Manō?" He said firmly as he approached the controls. "What's going on?"

"We are approaching the Hyperion, Commander Smoak." Manō replied in his deep voice. "Would you like me to open a hail?"

Jason stood there for a moment, placing the rag over his shoulder, before crossing his arms over his chest and staring off into the forward view port. He stood there silently, gazing at the Luna Class Vessel, his new home while he served on board as chief. He couldn't remember the last time he saw a Luna class, let alone stepped on board, but there she was in all her glory. The USS Hyperion. A smirk formed across his face as he let out a bit of a comforting sigh. It was great to be back to work.

"Commander Smoak? Would you like me to open a channel?" Manō repeated.

"Open a channel." Jason answered as he took a seat at the helm again, tapping on the console. "USS Hyperion. This is Lieutenant Commander Jason Smoak. I have transfer orders to board and be recognized as your replacement Chief of Security and Tactical Officer. Request permission to come aboard."

Iona turned to the captain. "Sir, I have a message from a Lieutenant Commander Jason Smoak asking for permission to come aboard."

John frowned and finally nodded after several moments. He hadn't heard anything from Starfleet Command about a new officer being assigned to the Hyperion, and he was just a bit concerned as well as curious as to why an officer would be sent out alone on a small shuttle all the way to the Hyperion. "Well, at least we have some room with the Helios out for the moment. Allow him to dock and see if we can get someone to escort him to the bridge, please."

"Hyperion to Smoak, permission to land. You will be met in the shuttle bay and escorted to the bridge to meet the captain."

Jason tapped on his console, adjusting his course toward the shuttle bay and replied. "Understood, Hyperion." He paused before shrugging a bit and adding. "Would you mind telling me why I am being sent to the principal's office? You guy's haven't even given me a chance to do anything wrong." He gave a slight chuckle.

"Feeling guilty, Smoak?" Csira replied. Then, not wanting to get in trouble with the captain, added, "Sorry. The captain will explain when you get here."

Jason let out a slight chuckle before replying "If there is one thing I have learned, from my time in Earth Security, is never to admit to anything if there is no evidence presented." He gave a slight smirk as he leaned back in his chair and added. "I'll head to the shuttle bay and be on the bridge before you know it, Hyperion. Koa Manō, Out."

This one was definitely a troublemaker. Iona turned to the captain. "He'll be here shortly, sir."

"Understood," John said as he force himself to remain seated and not start pacing the bridge.

Divaro and his team had suited up and headed out for the EVA as quickly as possible. Setek was taking his time getting the workbee launched, but what else could you expect from a lazy Vulcan. Easing closer to where the pod connected to the pod roll bar, Divaro sighed as he saw part of the problem. The pod had come loose and was hanging onto the roll bar by only the primary conduit and ODN cables. It was certain that if the ship went into warp again, the entire pod would snap right off and the Hyperion would most likely have to cut her current exploration mission short by returning to Earth for repairs. Tapping the comm, he informed the operations officer of the problem.

Iona turned to the captain. "Sir, Lieutenant Divaro reports that the pod has come loose and is only connected by the primary conduit and ODN cables. He will need to do an EVA to effect repairs."

"That bad?" John asked with a heavy sigh. "Helm, shut down all propulsion systems and set thrusters to station keeping. Miss Csira, get all maintenance teams out there with the workbees and one of the Sphinx shuttles. Also, see if you can use the secondary comm systems to reach the Helios."

=======

Smoak eased the shuttle in to its spot in the shuttle bay and shut it down. As soon as he lowered the ramp to the Koa Manō, as expected, he was met by security and soon escorted to the bridge in his civilian clothes. The trip to the bridge wasn't as long as he expected, but once the turbolift doors opened he couldn't help but notice how busy it seemed to be. Officers going back and forth, between station and station, trying to stay on top of whatever situation they were dealing with. Jason had no idea what was going on, but he could tell they were working at top efficiency. Jason was soon directed further into the controlled chaos and toward the commanding officer.
