Mission: Upon Wings Anew
John entered the conference room of the Hyperion and shook his head. The table, at least, wasn't round, and that was a good thing. He had called for a meeting of the majority of the officers who had made it on board the new Hyperion He was still trying to rush the ship's launch, if for no other reason than because he wanted to get underway as soon as possible. Sitting down at the commanding officer's seat, he leaned back and waited while trying to not get lost in his thoughts. These days, that was quite the chore.
Ryssa walked in and smiled at the captain. "Hello, sir," she said before taking a seat.
John managed to keep from jumping at the sound of a voice. Turning towards the source, he smiled towards his XO. "Afternoon commander," he said.
"So we're ready to head out?" she asked.
"That's what I'm hoping to hear from Lieutenant Kousaka when she arrives," John answered as he nodded stiffly. No matter how soon the new Hyperion departed, it wouldn't be soon enough for him. "I assume all other departments have submitted status reports?"
"They have. All report ready."
"Good," John said as he turned to the view port and tapped his fingers against the tabletop. After a moment he turned back to Ryssa. "Hopefully everything will be ready for launch and we can get underway quickly," he said quietly.
Striker came into the room with a PADD in hand.
"Morning everyone." He greet as he entered and head for a chair. "Science Department reporting ready to go Captain."
The doors opened and Honoka rushed in slightly out of breath. "Sorry Captain. Turbolift got stuck on deck three... had to... climb from there..." she panted.
John sighed and shook his head. "And why did the turbolift get stuck?" he asked.
Honoka shrugged. "I don't really know. I've got an... engineering team working on it... now" she panted.
"We can get ops to look into it," Ryssa said.
"Please dispatch an ops team to assist engineering with the turbolifts," John said, trying hard not to sigh. That was the last thing he needed was parts on his brand new ship to start breaking.
The first officer nodded and sent a message to ops. "They'll have a team on site in two minutes."
"Good," John said, offering a nod of thanks towards Ryssa. He then turned a slight look towards his chief engineer. "I trust that any other system issues can be sorted out and repaired en route," he said. "And I want a full ship wide diagnostic on all systems before we launch."
"Understood Captain. We can do that on the go" Honoka replied.
"Very good," John said as he glanced at the time. "Unfortunately, I have a staff meeting before we launch, so I must adjourn this meeting early. We'll hold another meeting tomorrow before we depart." Standing, he nodded towards his officers before he quickly headed out of the conference room.
