Mission:
Upon Wings Anew
Location: USS Hyperion Deck 8
John hated rushing out of the meeting as he had, but there were simply too many things that needed his attention and he was naturally rushing the launch of the new Hyperion by almost a week. Technically, Starfleet didn't like for brand new ships to be launched ahead of schedule but in this case John had full control of the time table and he wanted to get out there and find his missing ship. He knew his new crew were most likely already upset or confused by his actions, but they had so far kept their questions to a minimum.
Arriving on deck 8, John quickly walked down the long corridor towards the docking port where the Hyperion was anchored to the dry dock slip. A staff meeting of him and several other commanding officers along with members of the admiralty and a few intelligence specialists had been called on short notice regarding the situation inside around and involving the Romulan Empire. John knew of a few things that had been brought to his attention before, and he could guess some of the material the meeting would cover, but there was now apparently new information that had recently been discovered.
Reaching the airlock, John paused as he noticed the security guards bracing to attention. "At ease, gentlemen," John said.
"Sorry, Captain, we're trying to be a little diligent today," the officer in charge said.
"Well, I'm leaving the ship, and you clearly know who I am, so am I cleared?"
"Of course, Captain, let me log you departing and we'll get you on your way."
John nodded. "Excellent," he said as he started over tot he security console. The security officer was in the process of logging the captain's departure, something that required a confirmation scan due to new security measures that had been put in place. The security officer pressed the final key and started to take a step back to allow John room to engage the scan when the ship rocked. The flaming sphere of a fireball filled the airlock, engulfing one of the security officers and burning another. The officer in charge and John were both thrown sideways into the bulkhead. John slammed into the bulkhead hard and slid to the deck as the ship's emergency alarms rang out across the Hyperion.
