Mission: Ghost of a Chance
Location: Brig

Brig, USS Hyperion

John paced the brig cell he had been locked away in. He had studied the design carefully when he had first assumed command and knew that escape from inside was quite near to impossible, and he didn't have access to anything that would assist him in such an endeavor. Instead, he could do nothing more than watch and wait. He guessed that most of the crew were being kept in quarters or the primary cargo bays, which made sense. Locking the core crew in the brig was actually fairly smart. The doors opened and his attention shifted immediately to the door. He winced as he saw Sevena being escorted roughly into the brig.

Sevena had tried to blend in with the Hyperion's crew and civilian population, but being a Romulan was hard to hide. She had been quickly spotted and while she hadn't been identified as a current member of the Romulan Military, she had been sent to the brig because, well, why not? She stumbled into her assigned brig cell and spun about slowly, then watched as the goons that had 'escorted' her there left. Seeing the captain, she nodded.

Miko paced back and forth like a caged animal, which was exactly how she felt. She knew that there were most likely wounded to treat, and she was currently the senior medical officer on board the Hyperion, a fact that angered her. That anger was slowly rising into something much more dreaded, and she silently wished that she wasn't behind a force field. There wasn't much else to do except sit, and she was too far on edge to do that. She finally stopped, took a deep breath, and exhaled slowly before she turned and started thinking of sitting down.

Wendi had no idea where she was being dragged to. She was barely concious when the Romulans literally dragged her into the Hyperions brig. They didn't seem to care much about her either as they threw her over the threshold and reactivated the forcefield. It was obvious that she had taken quite a nasty blow to the head by the large gash on her forehead from which blood slowly triccled out onto the deck plates. She remained in a heap on the floor where the Romulan had thrown her.

"Well, they're certainly getting less and less gentle with their captives," Sevena commented drily.

"Shut up, Romulan," John said as he knelt by the force field. "Chief, can you hear me?"

"Sorera no midoriiro no chi ma dare no yarō!" Miko spat as she pressed as close to the force field as she dared. "Hey! She needs medical attention!" she called out to the Romulans.

The Romulan guards walked over to the brig cells and sneered. "She's fine. At the last time we checked, she was still breathing," one said.

John met the pirate's eyes and held them as he spoke. "Listen to me, that woman is the chief engineer of this ship. She's one of the most important people on this entire ship, in fact next to me she's one of the few people you WANT to keep as healthy as possible. She's also the only one who can keep the ship and its systems running," he said. "So let my medical officer tend to her. I give you my word that she won't cause any trouble."

The Romulan blinked and looked over his shoulder, first at the tiny medical officer and then towards the engineer, before he turned back towards the Hyperion's captain. "Ok, we'll let your medic treat your engineer, but only because we need this ship and your crew intact. But there better not be any problems."

The Romulan walked over to the brig cell with Sato and deactivated the force field before he grabbed her roughly and dragged her towards the cell with Chief Maberu. Another one somehow got his hands on a medical kit and met them at the cell. Turning the field off, they shoved Sato inside and turned the field back on.

Miko didn't waste any time. She quickly knelt beside the injured engineer and opened the medical kit she had been given by their captors. Grabbing the medical tricorder, she started scanning Maberu, her face tightening in an expression of near hate fill rage as she did so. Taking a mental note of the non commissioned officer's injuries, Miko set the tricorder aside and grabbed a cortical stimulator and a hypo-spray. Setting the stimulator on Maberu's forehead, she activated it before filling the hypo-spray with a vial of Rexlin, a standard painkiller. Glancing over her shoulder towards the captain, she spoke in a harsh voice filled with anger. "She's going to be alright, but I really need her to be in sickbay if I'm going to do any more good," Miko said.

Wendi began to stir slightly, she managed to slowly open her eyes and looked up towards the ceiling. "Sore wa hontōni itai..." she said simply looking over at Miko. She managed to mutter out a few English words as she laid on the floor. "Cap...Captain" she said.

"Chief. I'm here," John said as he leaned forward as close to the force field as he could.

"Romulans... they" she began to breath a little more heavily. "Killed... engineering..."

"They did what?" John said, his voice hard and cold. He had trusted that Romulan bitch to keep her word about none of his crew being harmed, and now the entire engineering crew had been killed other than his chief. "I'm going to murder that green blooded wench."

"Try not to move. You've taken a lot of hits and you have fractured bones everywhere," Miko said with a dark glare towards the Romulans that spoke volumes of her opinion of them. Hiding her actions, she slipped the vial of painkillers out of the hypospray and loaded it with a heavy sedative, dialing the dosage amount as high as she dared before she stood and walked over to the edge of the force-field. "I really need to get her to sickbay. Otherwise she might not recover from her injuries," she said.

The Romulans paused and stared at each other for a moment before one of them muttered a curse and turned back to the brig. "She might be right," one said.

"Then take them to sickbay. I'll be back in a few minutes," the other said before he left the brig center.

The first Romulan sighed and walked back to the cell with Sato and Maberu and lowered the forcefield. Pushing past the medical officer he grumbled and reached down to grab the engineer.

Miko waited until what she hoped was the perfect time before her hand lashed out like a viper and pressed the hypospray against the Romulan's neck. Pressing the controls, she emptied half of the vial of sedative into his system before she pulled it back. Stepping back, she bit the inside of her lip as she waited to see what would happen next, silently praying for the idiot Romulan to simply pass out.

He cried out before falling to the ground. Three other Romulans ran into the room, their weapons pointed at Miko. When they saw their comrade on the ground, one of them shot the engineer.

It was safe to say that no one was expecting for the Romulan to shoot not only the heavily injured but semi-concious engineer. Wendi let out a small scream of pain as her body jumped up from the shock. She was now completely unconcious and a faint triccle of blood began to stain through her uniform from the phaser wound. There was no way that she was close to waking up now.

"Yarō!" Miko snarled as she spied the bleeding disruptor wound on her patient. Dropping the hypo-spray, she fumbled just slightly but managed to grab the side arm of the Romulan she had dosed with heavy duty tranquilizers. Aiming, she pressed her finger on the firing button and fired. As the three Romulans returned fire, the Japanese officer ducked, practically falling to the deck as she did so. Her free hand landed on something and she glanced down quickly to see the Romulan equivalent of a thermal concussion grenade. Muttering 'What the hell' under her breath, Miko grabbed it, thumbed the activation button and threw it towards the three Romulan pirates before she dove towards Maberu. Throwing herself over the wounded engineer, Miko closed her eyes and covered her ears as the powerful explosive bounced along the deck towards the trio of Romulans, rolling to a stop in front of them before exploding. A loud, short lived force of pressure and fire filled the entryway of the brig area. When the air cleared, Miko lifted her head and groaned as she stumbled to her feet. The Romulans were no longer a threat, but she figured that they would be the least of their problems fairly soon. Stumbling over to the other brig cells, Miko tapped the controls and lowered the force-field.
