ON
Velah sat in the command chair of the Hyperion; here she had found herself again, looking out at the warp tunnel, she sat with her legs crossed at the knee watching the screen and then glancing about the crew. She had ordered the Deflector screens to maximum; as she had promised the Captain after she had a status report. Her instructors had beat it inot her to know the ship before you command it. While waiting for the ship she had gone over the specifics of the ship, she could even say she ran a few training programs to assure she knew her job as well as the Bridge should her ranking demand it.
She really did not expect to command the ship in combat; she was a healer, but with the rank came responsibilities.
‘Please do not have engine problems and not have Daniel being there is should problems arise.’ She begged to both Fate and Destiny to cover all bases.
Truth be told she had to stand watches on the Station; her commanding Officer made it clear anyone above a lieutenant should stand a watch to familiarize themselves with the process. Velah had studied what she should know and had the damned captain throw an alert on her shift. Velah nearly had a heart attack as she barked orders she learned from training; thanking her stars that she had taken the training, and she passed the Captain’s inspection.
Truth told despite her experience she did get a thrill out of it afterward; once she realized it was a drill and she passed. She had kept up her ratings and she now did the same for the Starship. She liked this seat for short times; it expanded her horizons. Now she watches as she wondered farther from her comfort zone; the ship’s initial systems are working as they should. The crew is doing their jobs well enough under standard operating conditions. She would be sure to add this to her fitness reports in the quarterly data dump; well at least this shift as an example, the projections on the crew readiness reports. She was on a shift that the Captain did not have someone to command; Gamma being the ‘lax shift’ by most standards. SO her asking to be on the bridge was in part to give her Captain a rest but also since this is the shift that is best for attacks. Training from military personnel like the Marines have proven that between 2 and 4 AM is the best time to make a raid. IT is when the personnel are most tired and with computers programmed by Humanoids this trend makes it more susceptible to attack as well.
The Captain had faith in his crew; she could tell that already and this shift seemed to be handling the tasks well. The evaluation might have seemed sneaky yet she did it anyway. She also had to admit she wanted to sit in this chair; she smiled to herself as she kept vigil over the crew and her systems on the armature of the Command chair.
A little tickle in her bosom; it was an exciting thing to be in command despite her saying she did not want it. She did not want it all the time but a few shifts or even a regular posting would not bother her. She might even ask if Sassy could witness the operations for part of a shift and make a school report? If the girl was going to be here past the age she can go through Star Fleet she might as well get used to what in entails?
“Coffee Ma’am?” A yeoman asked; who suddenly appeared it seemed, and broke Velah’s train of thought.
“Are you getting yourself some?” Velah asked without thinking.
“I-I was going to get some for the crew and thought you might like some?” The Yeoman smiled; a nice young woman maybe twenty two?
“What is your name Yeoman?” Velah asked.
“Yeoman Walters Commander.” She replied. “Tabitha Walters.”
“Well Tabitha.” Velah smiled. “You can call me Velah when we are in our close little group here on the bridge or if you see me in the corridors. “And I would love a Hot green tea with honey and two sugars.” She winked. “I have a sweet tooth.”
“Yes M… Velah.” She nod and turned to get the beverages.
Velah was looking forward to a routine shift and report of readiness, she did like changes once in a while and this whole posting was making her change.
That was a good thing.
