Velah was walking through the corridors; her boots would have clicked had there not been padding. The natural walk she had been adopting all these years; engrained in her training as a Slave Girl at a young age, was the poise of a model on a runway. Decades of habit had made it natural and not something the really thought of. The skirted uniform was because she did not like being in a 'unisex' style uniform as the last three letters of that style clashed with the impression most had of her heritage as a Slave Girl and being easy. She avoided that word as much as possible.
Heading down towards The Science Labs Velah had a case with her and hoped she was not crossing any lines. Science is just blessed with the best equipment for what Velah wanted and she would just ask for help from the experts. She entered Science and sought out one Officer she knew would be able to help her; Élan Val should be the one to best aid in this task.
"Lieutenant Val?" Velah stood out of the woman's personal space and smile. "I am Lt. Commander Velah; Medical Chief..." She held up a case. "Could you spare some time I think my Replicator is off and I need you to verify if I am correct?"
Élan looked up from the experiment she had been working on and frowned slightly. She was wearing one of her favorite non-uniform outfits, a corset and a knee length skirt with a pair of black boots, since she was normally the only one in the primary science lab. Seeing the Orion woman wearing the teal of sciences and medical who could only be Velah, she frowned even more at the box.
“I can look at it, but I didn’t have a lot of cross training in Operations, so I may be a little rusty,” Élan said as she stood and walked over to a workbench.
The look of the woman in a corset was interesting while in her element of the lab; it made Velah wonder about a few things but still the look was one of a classic nature. She smiled as she could see why men are attracted to her, but the look when Velah realized she had not really gotten the point across she went to the work bench and opened the case to show four Tricorders, she took them out.
"I am sorry, what I need from you is to use your facilities to check the calibration of the Tricorders." She said as she almost turned slightly darker. "The sensitivity of the more recently replicated Tricorders seems... off." She glanced to Val. "Science is the expert for sensory devices so I hoped you would test them and if their calibration is off then I know the replicator is defective?" She explained. "The Tricorders work but I just get a feeling they are not giving me a true reading and since it was a 'lot' we replicated I could narrow it down. Maybe I am just being silly but I want the best for those patients that come to my Sick Bay so if you would be so kind I would really appreciate your input on the sensitivity of the units?"
Élan nodded as she took one of the tricorders and stripped it down to where she could see the internal components. Using a diagnostic tool she had acquired from operations, she scanned the circuits and frowned at the reading. Humming quietly, she did the same procedure on three other tricorders before she nodded and stepped back.
“The settings on the sensory tolerance are off by five percent, and the calibration on the tricorder sensors themselves are off by as much as ten percent. Did you say that you replicated these in a batch?” Élan said with a thoughtful look on her face.
Yes and I did not like the reading variation from the Biobed." Velah said but since they functioned I did not want to replace a working replicator if I did not need to." She continued."I figure that your department is the best to check calibration of sensory devices to verify so I came down to introduce myself."
“Well, if it’s a problem in the replicator then it should be an easy fix. The same is true for the bio-bed. All it’ll take is someone from either operations or engineering to recalibrate the equipment. Of course, you may want to supervise and test the equipment after they’ve worked on it. In my experience they normally set the calibrations to default settings unless you keep an eye on them,” Élan said as she reassembled the tricorders. When she had finished, she turned and smiled towards Velah.
“Most people don’t think of the science department when this sort of problem happens. I’m glad I could be of assistance,” she said.
"They don't?" Velah chuckled. "Well there are a few other cross -over’s between our departments that I have found in the past so you will see me more than you think." She offered a handshake. "Though I admit I prefer meeting over a social matter this was a good chance for me to meet you Lt. Val. I owe you for helping me out so why don't I spring for a good plate of appetizers and a drink at the Lounge, feel free to collect it anytime." She smiled genuinely. "My daughter and I are there often so swing by and we can have a chat?"
“You don’t owe me for anything. I’m glad I could be of assistance. As for the drink, I’ll definitely take you up on that offer sometime although I must admit that I’m a bit of a workaholic. I duck into the lounge every once in a while when I absolutely have to have a break,” Élan said with a smile as she shook Velah’s hand.
"Don't make me come drag you out of here for your own good." Velah laughed. "All work and no play makes for a dull girl." She winked. "It was a pleasure meeting you," Velah said and after the shake collected her broken toys. "Open invitation." She said before turning to leave the science lab.
“I’ll remember. The main lounge, sometime after alpha shift later this week,” Élan said, giving the chief medical officer a nod to indicate that she was serious. Watching the Orion officer leave the lab, she frowned thoughtfully for a moment before she shrugged and turned back to the experiment she had been working on.
