"In that case, why don't we begin with me telling you a bit about myself," he said. "First of all, I'm 38 years old, I am divorced once, my favorite color is orange, my favorite type food is Italian, and for fun I like photography and riding ancient Earth motorcycles. In fact," he said with a smile as he pictured something in his mind, "I can see you now, on the back of my Harley, your arms around me, hair blowing in the wind as we ride..."
"Now it's your turn..." he said as he moved a bit closer to her.
“Well, ok. I was born on the Trill home-world, graduated from both basic school and the Trill Science Academy a year early, passed the joining program, and was joined with Val before I joined Starfleet. Val’s life has been slightly more entertaining if you like life stories. I’ve never been married, although Val was once. I like any food that’s good, and I’ll try almost anything once for entertainment,” Élan said. Giving Daniel a mischievous smile, she rolled over onto her side and wiggled up next to him.
“So, what else are you daydreaming of us doing?” she asked.
"Believe me, I have things in mind..." Daniel said after a moment. He hesitated a bit, then added "But I first have to tell you in case you haven't realized it, I find you incredibly attractive. And after the sample you left me with in the lounge earlier, one thing I'm daydreaming about is kissing you again..."
“Oh, so you’re only interested in kissing me, then. That’s too bad, I had other things in mind if you were interested,” Élan said.
"Well now I didn't say that was ALL I had in mind, now did I?" he asked. "But other things usually start with a kiss. So what did you have in mind?"
Instead of giving him a verbal answer, Élan leaned closer and placed her lips on his while running her hand from his knee halfway up his leg. She then bit down lightly before she leaned back and smiled.
“You should know by now that I prefer doing things other than talk most of the time,” she said.
"Something tells me we tend to think alike," Divaro said as he slowly ran his hand down her side and over the flare of her hip before gently caressing her backside. "Perhaps now is the time for a little less talk and a lot more action?"
“Well, lead on, then, Mister Divaro,” Élan said with a smile as she snuggled up closer to Daniel and nuzzled him.
"MISTER Divaro? My, aren't we being formal?" he said with a grin. "You know, you can call me Daniel--especially when we're off duty. May I call you Elan? Lieutenant sounds too much like we're still at work. And believe me, what I have in mind with you is definitely NOT work..."
“Élan is fine, but only when we’re not on duty or in uniform. It’s an old habit of mine. I just feel that I have to be formal when I’m in uniform. So, if it’s not work, what exactly did you have in mind?” Élan said with a smile.
"What I have in mind would begin with something like this..." he said as he leaned into her and began to kiss her gently. He could feel the warmth of her body even through the clothes they wore and he wondered what it would feel like to feel her bare skin against his. Was the warmth he was feeling from her a natural result of her being Trill or was it evidence of excitement from what was happening between them. As they kissed, several thoughts ran through Daniel's mind, chief of which was that they were obviously in a public place. Granted, it was fairly secluded and the odds of them being seen were pretty low, he didn't know how she might feel about things progressing much past the stage they were at right now. After all, they HAD just met and he wouldn't expect her to just tumble into bed with him. He would see where things led, but for now he was prepared to enjoy whatever happened.
Élan closed her eyes and enjoyed the sensations she and Val were experiencing and sharing. She was very aware that the arboretum was a public area of the ship and that someone could discover them at any moment, but she didn’t care. She wanted to enjoy this feeling. She wasn’t inexperienced at love, but it had been a while since she had been in a serious relationship and even longer for Val. She was also aware that she had only just met Daniel, and she wasn’t sure of his feelings. That thought instantly ruined the mood, and Élan opened her eyes and pulled away from him.
When she pulled away, Daniel wondered if he had done something wrong. "Are you okay?" he asked. "Is something wrong?"
“I don’t want anything to ruin any relationship between myself and anyone else on the Hyperion. I also don’t like being a one night stand or being hurt,” Élan said.
"I see..." he said slowly. "First of all, I don't do one-night stands. Never have, never will. If I show an interest in you, which I have, it's because I find you attractive and would like to have a relationship with you. If you're not interested in anything long-term then I need to know that now. I don't believe in love 'em and leave 'em--that's not my style at all. And as for relationships with anyone else on the Hyperion...is there someone else? Because if there is, then I need to know that as well."
“There’s no one else that I’m interested in as far as a romantic relationship. I was referring to non romantic relationships as well. I only want a long term relationship, I’ve seen firsthand what the other does to people and I’m not interested in becoming someone like that,” Élan said.
"As far as hurting you, I've been hurt before and believe me, hurting you is the last thing on my mind," Daniel said, choosing his words carefully. "I think you're beautiful, both outside, and from what I know so far, inside as well. If I'm in a relationship with someone, I don't cheat--period. I'm not just looking for a good time and I would definitely like to see where this goes..."
“Thank you for understanding. I’m glad that you understand,” Élan said as she leaned closer and kissed Daniel.
He kissed her back and when the kiss ended, he lay back on the grass, content for the moment to just enjoy her closeness. "I also want you to know that I will never, ever pressure you into giving anything more than you are willing to freely give. I do not believe that relationships should be based on pressure, intimidation, or anything else other than affection, love, and caring for one another. I promise you that."
“Good, that means that you’re a rare find and definitely worth the wait,” Élan said as she rolled onto her back and closed her eyes again. He had definitely ruined her bad mood and turned her day into an enjoyable afternoon. It was rare, in her experience, to find a guy that was willing to put up with her unusualness.
“You still owe me dinner,” she finally said after a moment.
"I do, don't I?" he said as he closed his eyes and reached for her hand, then intertwined his fingers with hers. "We still have a little while before dinner and I think I'd like to spend it here with you, where it's peaceful and quiet..."
