Mission: Pathways
Kesiane sighed as she waited for the turbolift to come to a stop; she hoped the Captain didn't notice her tardiness. Her shuttle had been docked for several hours now and she had yet to check in. She knew checking in should have been the first thing she did once coming aboard, but the Vulcan/Betazoid had been in desperate need of meditation to clear her mind. She couldn't report to the Captain in her frayed stated, so she hoped he wouldn't mind. The turbolift finally came to a stop and let her out onto the bridge; the time for wondering was over as she approached the Captain's office and pressed the chime to announce herself.
John had finally gotten gotten to his ready room and had finally finished arranging the office space to suit his liking. His ready room was slightly larger than the ready room on an Intrepid class star ship and had the same basic layout. A raised area under the view port had a shaped couch along with a couple of chairs and a table for informal meetings, while the main area had a desk and several chairs for those formal occasions. He was sitting at his desk and reading through a few of the reports that had been brought to his office already. When the door chime rang, he looked up. "Enter," he called.
Kesiane entered the office, her duster swishing around her ankles as she walked. She approached the desk, pausing for a moment to get a feel for the man before handing a PaDD to him with her transfer orders. "Lieutenant Kesiane Lisos reporting for duty," she intoned softly.
"Lisos, Lisos, you're my new chief ops officer, if I remember correctly," John said as he accepted the padd and skimmed the briefing material. He nodded as he noticed that he had been correct. Looking back up at his new COps, he smiled. "Are you cold, Lieutenant?" he asked as he leaned back in his chair.
"If you are referring to my jacket," Kesiane started, and she knew he was, but it was merely a practiced politeness to not upset people with her inability to block out others' thoughts. "No, I am not cold, it is merely a preference of style. I can wear my standard issue jacket if this one is a problem," she continued impassively.
"For normal every day duties, I'll allow it, but during special occasions I do ask that you keep your stand issue jacket nearby," John said. He had served with many people during his time in Starfleet, and he knew that some people had a few oddities about them. This was simply Lisos's oddity, and it wasn't that odd. "So, I hope you're prepared to jump straight to work. We had an explosion in one of the science labs, one of the primary chemistry labs in fact, and I need it up and running ASAP. You'll have to get with Commander Divaro for the details for the repairs schedule."
"Yes sir," Kesiane said with a slight nod in response to the Captain's conditions for allowing her longcoat, though a hint of a smile itched at the corner of her mouth; if he thought her jacket was her only oddity, then he had not read far enough into her file to know about her telepathic disability, and if this was the case then he was in for a big surprise... "I am able to get to work right away, sir. I've already had the opportunity to meet Commander Divaro, I will seek him out immediately to assist with repairs."
"Excellent," John said with a smile. He was happy with everyone that Starfleet Command had assigned to the Hyperion so far, and his new COps seemed to be an outstanding addition to the crew. "I'll let you get to it then, Lieutenant. Welcome to the Hyperion, Ms Lisos."
"Thank you sir," Kesiane replied, bowing slightly and turning to leave the office, ready to get to work.
