Mission: Into the Raptor's Shadow
Location: Ready room

Many people turned their heads when the small... creature walked out onto the bridge of the Hyperion. Her dazzling blue hair and bright eyes looked around. She had large fluffy ears on top of her head, each turning in the direction of sound. She wore a Starfleet Science uniform, however it had been modified to reveal the young woman's lower abdomen and arms.

Warrant Officer Kaiyo was not your ordinary being. She was a Glacet, born and raised on the frozen world of Glayos. She was the only Glacet to be serving in Starfleet as part of a cultural officer exchange, she was also young at only twelve years old. However she had more knowledge about stellar cartography and astrometrics than a lot of ordinary Starfleet Science Officers.

As she walked she seemed to skip as if light on her feet, her agile build and bone structure built for fast movement up and down ice crystal tree's and a blue tail, covered in fur designed for steering like a rudder in water. She however had no fur on her actual body, just her ears, tail and hair. Her skin was pale white, any Human this colour would be seen as ill or have been "Never out in the sun" as she was often told.

The short woman stood infront of the ready room door, and held out a finger pushing the button to ring it lightly. She had not been aboard long. The orders for her to transfer to this ship were very quick and on short notice, she wasn't sure why, but she did know that the Captain was expecting her.

John was taking a break from reading up on Romulan customs and what he and the senior officers should expect during the upcoming diner. Being exposed to Starfleet all of his life, he knew that such diplomatic encounters were a required evil for all senior line officers, but he also knew that they could go badly and have horrible fallout. That was why he was standing before the view port in his ready room with a cup of hot tea and wondering if he could get away with ordering the Hyperion away from Romulus and somewhere else far, far away when the door chime rang out. Turning, he called "Enter" and set his tea glass down.

The doors swished open and Kaiyo entered. She stood just inside the door, allowing them to close behind her softly. She had learnt that it was seen as rude to enter deep into someone elses territory without a proper invite.
"Greetings" she said softly. "I am Kaiyo, carrying the rank of Warrant Officer" she explained her voice smooth, soft yet warm. "Orders from Starfleet Command and the Glacetti Science Institution place me on this vessel under your care sir"

John had to remind himself not to blink and stare at the tiny warrant officer standing before him. As a Starfleet officer he had seen countless alien species, but this was a new one and he was sure that no one had sent him any transfer orders recently. Thinking, he tried to remember if he had even heard of a Kaiyo or Glacetti and came up with a blank. Shaking his head, he nodded and waved the science officer towards a chair. "I have to admit that this is the first that I've heard of your transfer to the Hyperion, but we've had several last minute transfers so your orders might have gotten lost or overlooked. You're a science officer?" he said as he sat down behind his desk.

Kaiyo pulled a PaDD out of one of the pockets on her three quarter length trousers. Carefully she walked over and hopped up into the chair opposite, her feeet dangling off of the floor. "Yes" she said as she put the PaDD down on the desk and pushed it over to him. "My specialties include that of Astronomy, Astrometrics, Stellar Cartography and Astrophysics" she explained. "Also, my uniform has been adapted to suit several ancient Glacetti culutral needs, as stated in the transfer documents" she added with a smile. "Most of the Starfleet seem to stare at me when they first encounter me"

"I'm sorry, but I've never even heard of much less seen a member of your species before, and doubled with the tailoring of your uniform, it was a bit of a surprise I wasn't expecting this afternoon. I expect that you'll get a lot of stares for a while, at least until everyone settles in and gets used to you being on board. So, are you assigned to astrometrics or stellar cartography?" John asked, giving the tiny officer a friendly smile.

"Both" Kaiyo said. "I have taken on the assignment of double duty" she explained with a smile. "Also Captain. Any discoveries that the Hyperion encounters will be equally shared with the Glacetti Science Institute as per the Scientific Exchange Program with the Federation" she added. "However that is my responsibility to include in weekly reports back to Glayos"

"Are the Glacetti not a member of the Federation?" John asked, frowning slightly.

"Yes" Kaiyo responded. "However we are still advancing our own sciences"

"You know that as members of the Federation, all information developed or obtained by Starfleet or other Federation member worlds becomes available to you the moment it's released for public knowledge, which is more often than not immediately. It's a standing principle of the Federation charter," John said.

Kaiyo nodded. "These are just my orders Captain" she explained. "We still have active science vessels, although our warp drive capabilities are limited"

"I can understand that," John said with a nod. "As a warrant officer in science, your department head will be Lieutenant Elan Val. She's usually in one of the science labs. I'll authorize your transfer orders as soon as they come through. As our main specialist in stellar cartography and astrophysics, you'll have plenty to do. Did they tell you where the Hyperion is heading to?"

Kaiyo shook her head. "No sir. I have just arrived" she said simply. "I am new to the Starfleet Federation"

John nodded silently and reached for a blank padd that was on his desk. Typing in a series of commands, he uploaded a full map of the Hyperion along with a highlight of the science facilities and recreational areas. Leaning forward, he handed his new science officer the padd. "This has a map of the Hyperion and I went ahead and highlighted the critical areas. Lieutenant Elan Val is the chief science officer, you can probably find her in one of the science labs. If there's an explosion, that's more than likely where she's located."

Kaiyo nodded. "I will locate Chief Lieutenant Elan Val" she said with a smile. "Follow the explosions...."

John offered Kaiyo a smile. "Welcome to the Hyperion, Ms Kaiyo," he said, hoping that he wasn't scaring off the warrant officer.

"Thank you Captain John Theisman" she replied. "I look forward to the future we have as a crew"

"As do I," John said with a friendly smile. "Dismissed, Ms Kaiyo."

Kaiyo nodded and stood at the door for a second. She jumped a little so that the sensor would pick her up, and then the door swished open allowing her to exit.
