Jayde was making the rounds, meeting the senior staff and those she would be working with.
She walked into Main Engineering and scanned the room, first to see how it looked and how everyone was working, then to look for Commander Divaro.
As Daniel came out of the turbolift from the upper level of main engineering, he spotted a Lieutenant Commander he did not recognize. He walked over to where she stood and spoke. "May I help you Commander...?" he left the rank hanging, waiting for her to introduce herself. "I'm Commander Daniel Divaro--Chief Engineer."
"I am Mira Jayde, the new chief of security," she said, giving him a half-bow. "I am here to see you, actually."
"Oookay..." Daniel said slowly, not sure what the Chief of Security could need from engineering. "Why don't we move this to my office? It will be a lot quieter in there," he added as he turned toward his door.
Jayde nodded and followed him.
As soon as they entered, Divaro said "Please, have a seat. May I get you anything from the replicator?"
"No, thank you," Jayde said politely. "But please, help yourself if you wish something." She sat down and waited for Divaro to take a seat as well.
Daniel quickly grabbed a cup of coffee, then sat down behind his desk. "Now--what can I do for you?" he asked.
"As I said, I am the new Chief of Security," Jayde replied. "Although our departments do not work together often, I would like to know what you expect of security."
"That's a good question actually," Daniel said. "And something that I actually had not thought about but seeing that we're headed into Romulan space it might be a good idea to have someone from security stationed here in engineering. After all, main engineering does offer a lot of possibilities for sabotage."
"I'm not sure if you'd want one here full time, but I could definitely have someone check in once or twice every shift, and I can help you increase security protocols that may make it harder for anyone to get into the computers."
Divaro sipped his coffee as he listened to the Security Chief. When she had finished speaking, he nodded slowly. "I think having someone check in occasionally is a good idea. Maybe at random times so there's no set pattern to their checks?"
Jayde nodded. "It is better not to be predictable," she replied calmly. "Especially when everyone thinks they know what to expect."
"So what other ideas do you have for improving security around here?"
"My Master-at-Arms will be handling weapons recertifications and teaching martial arts classes. This will be above and beyond the standard Starfleet training. I also wish to increase security protocols in the computer and weapons systems."
"Sounds like you have everything well under control," Daniel said. "And I'm due for my phaser recertification as well, so please ask your Master-at-Arms to include me in the training program as well as any or all of my people that may be required."
"I will inform Liang," Jayde said with a nod. "Is there anything else you would like from security?"
"Not that I can think of at the moment," Divaro answered. "Is there anything that engineering can do for your department?"
"Not at the moment, but I will definitely let you know if that changes," she said. "Then if there is nothing more, I will leave you to your work." Jayde stood and gave him a formal Vulcan bow.
"It was a pleasure meeting you, Commander..." Daniel said. Remembering the Vulcan dislike for physical contact, he did not offer his hand to her, but simply nodded his head. "If there's anything else you need, you know where to find me."
"I do. Thank you," she said, turning and heading back to security.
