Zhara unpacked and arranged her quarters to her liking, then did the same to her office. She knew that counseling was low on most people's priority list, but she wanted to have everything ready, just in case. The white furniture and soft blue rugs set the tone she wanted, enhanced by several planter boxes filled with herbs. The herbs provided two functions, one, they were attractive, and two, they made the best herb teas.

Once she was satisfied, she and Sophia went to sickbay to meet the doctor and get a physical.

Velah was rapidly going through the Sick Bay trying to learn the layout of supplies as it is easier for her to learn how the staff works and make subtle modifications to bring things to where she can best be the guiding force behind the Sick Bay. A task every CMO has to do with a new command. It took her months to get the station to where she could comfortable lead the staff and her changes integrated comfortably into the matrix.

She caught the doors opening out of the corner of her eyes and knew the only person with an attractive dog was a friend. She crossed over to meet Zhara and Sophia.

"Well as I live and breathe, I did not expect a friendly visit so soon." Velah went to offer a hug to her friend.

Zhara returned the hug and smiled. "I am pleased to see you so cheerful. How have you found the ship so far?" She was more interested in how things had gone with Sassi's father, but that was a question she wound build to.

"They are very welcoming." Velah said. "The Captain I think expected more problems by the waty he asked about my ex-husband." She shrugged. "Sassi is glad to see her dad so I will let a lot of his antics slide."

"He was here first," Zhara replied. "The Captain's opinion of you was no doubt colored by his perceptions. Now is your chance to show the Captain that you are not what you were portrayed to be."

"I have met the Captain." Velah laughed. "I did not bite him or seduce him so it went pretty well I think." She told her friend. "SO how are you taking the new ship?" She asked and motioned to a biobed. "We can use this one over here for your official check."

"Not bad. I have not met the Captain yet," Zhara said. She raised an eyebrow as sat on the biobed. "Do you often bite and seduce fellow officers?" Her tone was lightly teasing.

How else do you think Orions got their reputation?" Velah joked while adjusting the sensors.

Zhara chuckled appreciatively. "I will add that to my notes," she said, only half serious.

"Something tells me I am going to have a long session if I say anything else?" Velah winked at her friend. "Let me get my tricorder." She returned moment later with a tricorder in hand and dog treat in trhe other. "I have to see all personnel have a good visit if I can? And she offered the treat to Sophie.

Zhara's smile turned into a grin. "This is strictly off the record," she assured her friend. "At least as far as I'm concerned. Sophia is another matter. However, she does tend to remain silent if she likes you."

"She is beautiful and Sassy wants one now because I have told her not until she could take sole care of it." Velah said with a smile. "Her father and her were the types to go head first and not really look at the long term responsibilities, cute eyes and a wagging tail is about all it would take."

"She is beautiful," Zhara said, scratching Sophia behind her ear. "But she takes a lot of maintenance. If Sassy is interested, she can talke Sophia for her morning walk for a week. That may cure her. I take Sophia to the arboretum every morning and night. And we go somewhere in the afternoon most days."

"That could be an eye opener for her." Velah snickered. "She does not realize what a dog means really and I admit to not wanting; no offense, to live with animals in confined space with a girl that is a little wild herself."

"I don't blame you," Zhara said. "Dogs take a lot more time than cats. With a cat, you can keep their food and water bowls filled and change their litter and they'll be fine. Just pay them attention when they want it. Dogs need to go on walks and run from time to time."

"I would be more inclined for a cat but I would prefer no animals residing as I know I will be taking care of them." Velah commented. "Sophia is a beautiful dog and wile she can visit; like relatives, they do go home." SHe chuckled. "I think Sassy would enjoy being able to; I also believe you could chargeher latinum, to rent her for a day."

"I may take you up on that if I have to leave the ship for a day," Zhara said.

"I will make the Physical as painless as possible." Velah said with a grin. "Would not want Sophie to worrry any as dogs are protective." She winked. "MOment or two on a biobed and you will be done."

Zhara nodded. "I will try to repay the courtesy and make your psychological evaluation equally painless."

"Oh yes I do have one of those don't I?" Velah winked. "With Sassy being with her Dad I admit that I let things drop, I will get an appointment; I was going wait until Daniel drops off Sassy the first time so I can have plenty to talk about."

"Or if you need to, bring Sassy with you. She can keep an eye on Sophia while we talk -- or vice versa," Zhara said.

"You know, Zhara, I am really beginning to like you more and more." She offered to stand aside so the dog could get close to the biobed Zhara would use. "I have the feeling I might need help with this; it was easier dealing with a man light years away?"

"Yes, I imagine it will take some adjusting for all of you," Zhara said, letting Sophia sniff the biobed before she took a seat. "But the discipline of Starfleet training should help you -- at least untiol you adjust to the changes this will inevitably bring."

"It is a part of life." Velah started the scans. "Coming here was an adjustment, so a few more changes will not affect me."

"That is good to hear," Zhara replied. "How is Sassy adjusting to having both her parents on the same ship?"

"Sassy is glad to have her father back." Velah replied. "Though I think I would rather her not having her father drop her off." She shook her head. "Reminds me why I remain divorced from him."

"Unfortunately, not every marriage works out," Zhara said. "At least you can be civil for your daughter's sake."

"That is why I do not want to have him drop her off, the most civil I can be is not to talk with him. He cannot just say good bye to his daughter and exit stage right and everything would be fine. I even got dressed in my own quarters; I usually wear a comfortable housecoat in my space and not have to worry about him getting the wrong idea if I am in just a housecoat."

"Most men do not get the wrong impression when they see a woman in a housecoat," Zhara replied, unable to hide a grin. "They are not generally considered sexy. So, just find one that is comfortable and homely and you'll turn him off when he sees you, thus killing two birds with one stone."

"Your idea..." Velah smiled. "You are volunteered to help." She smiled and pointed to herself. "Does it have to be those soft fuzzy cotton job that make you look three times larger?" She did not have a favorable expression.

"No, it does not. It should look attractive to you, but not necessarily to your ex-husband." Zhara had several ideas in mind as her family used to sell tapestries and she herself had a taste for fine cloth. "We shall see what we can find."

"So long as it is soft I am not all that picky." SHe smiled. Orions have sensitive skin that why most are so comfortable in scant clothing." She smiled as she might have been joking?

"Trust me, it will be perfect -- for you, anyway," Zhara assured her. "Appealing to the senses is very important, including fabric choice."

"I know it might sound silly but I have certain habits that are ... mine. I do not wish to have to change and having gentlemen in my quarters is something I have not done in year; I felt it might confuse Sassy. I decided never to bring any man I am not devoted to into my domain. Should a man get brought into my quarters you can bet there is mutual affection and devotion there before he ever crosses that threshold." She went back to her scans. "Daniel was there for a bit but even he is not really one I want in that space as it is not going to happen; nothing will, so having a man in general just makes me uneasy in my quarters." She knew her friend was a Counselor and might be able to understand the fact Velah shut her doors to gentlemen callers for her and Sassy's sake?

"Then you and Commander Divaro need to come to some sort of arrangement. You don't want him simply leaving her at the door, or dripping her off at another location, do you?" Until Sassy turns 18, you will have to deal with him and with family quarters, you have a little more space than in most quarters," Zhara said. She knew her friend wouldn't like it, but it was a fact of life she could not avoid. "So, for the next few years you're going to have to deal with wearing something less comfortable after work. That, too, is a good example to set for your daughter."

"Is she always having to bring up the logic of it all?" Velah made to ask Sophia. "You it is not fair when she is right is it pretty girl."

Sophia barked and wagged her tail.

Zhara just laughed. "No, I am not always right, but I AM a counselor, so I do have to be right fairly often -- at least in my profession."

"Once I get a little more settled and Sassy is back from her time with Daniel; I am sure I will need to speak to you, I will make an appointment in the next couple of days. I don't have phobias about counselors; I am just really trying to just fit into the routine rather than majorly shaking it up." She completed the reading of the monitors. "You do keep yourself in shape; health wise I mean, and according to all my scans and personal observations..." She winked at Zhara. "You are good to go as far as duty is officially concerned. I will update tha database and unless you have a common cold or something I will not need to officially see you for a year."

"Thank you," Zhara said, slipping off the biobed. "I look forward to meeting with you and Sassy."

Sophia gave out a brief yip. "As does Sophia." Zhara gave Velah a hug. "You will be fine. Don't let him ruffle your feathers."

"Just a green Momma Hen I guess and that Rooster needs to find another Hen house." Velah laughed. "I will make an appointment soon; I have the feeling with him around I will need it."

"Good." Zhara gave Velah a hug. "I'm just down the corridor. take care." She signaled Sophia with her hand and the dog followed her out the door.

"May fate and Dystiny not fight over you and you have a happy life without their games." She offered an Orion Blessing to her friend.
