Mission:
An Angel's Sacrifice
Location: Planetoid
Timeline: Three months after crash
ON
It had been three months since most of the crew landed on the planet. Everyone had been accounted for except for the captain, who was now considered KIA. That made Jayde the senior officer. She'd organized everyone into three camps, giving most the option of where they wanted to settle. Her only concern was that everyone had a doctor and a shuttle for a sickbay.
They'd fallen into the habit of having a communal dinner in each of the camps, with the senior staff meeting once a week, unless there was something urgent.
Jason and Jayde stayed in the cave by the lake, with enough blankets and pillows to sleep on and little by little had turned it into a home. Most of the time they kept a fire pit outside, but a spot near the front with plenty of ventilation had a second fire pit for when it got cold. It gave them the privacy they needed to build their life together.
Velah was a bit lucky so far; she had a larger Tent Habitat for her and her daughter. It was only the fact she is the Chief Medical Officer and close to the Shuttle modified as a field Medical unit that she had the larger habitat. She also had used it as a 'First Aid Station of sorts for minor and easily healed injuries. It was a semi-permanent structure that Engineering had really 'thrown together more like a small cabin with tree logs and mud to seal it. It also sported one of the few Mobile Sterilization field generator in the camp. It had taken two weeks to make this 'Hospital' a reality and the signal was that the crew would be here for a while and needed it. After two weeks of debate the structure was given a priority with four rooms, storage of materials ; two operating/ care rooms and the Waiting area/ Triage should that be necessary.
Velah was not kidding herself about the job ahead; she had learned to gather some of the 'Fruit like; materials and have them on hand while trying to make her facility as unintimidating as possible. Though thoughts of ancient healers of the old stories came to mind. Not much more than 'Witch Doctors' in the past, depending on how long they could keep her limited facility working Velah may become one of those practitioners herself at this rate. Still, she stayed positive and her limited wardrobe to her worn and almost threadbare Skirted uniform in these conditions was not a bad choice; she had used her rare replicator rations for short sets so she and her daughter would be more comfortable.
This is her life at the moment; she had her daughter and their health would survive, that was enough for now.
Jayde wanted to have a quiet word with the doctor, so she stopped by her cabin on the way in and knocked on the door.
Velah went to the front door; her Earth toned short set and moccasin type shoes since she is not on duty and opened her front. Noticing Jayde at her door.
"Commander Jayde, please come in." Standing aside so that the woman would have access to her 'quarters.' "I have some tea brewing would you care for some?" She offered.
"I would, thank you," Jayde said, inclining her head. "It looks like you are doing well."
"What is that thing the Marines say' Improvise and conquer?" Velah said with a smile. "The Sergeant seems to be saying it whenever he is around." Velah lead Jayde to the small kitchenette, the pot of tea finished the brew.
"Improvise, adapt, overcome," Jayde said, having heard it a lot herself. "But close enough."
A small table set for two waited them, a couple of porcelain replicated cups and tea pot were on the table with sugar and milk dispenser.
"Please have a seat." She offered as she took one herself. "My daughter is out and about so we have time to chat."
"Thank you," Jayde said, taking the proffered seat. "I came to see how you were doing, and I may have a request."
"I am doing quite well for the most part." Velah replied before taking a sip of tea. "Are you feeling okay, something not noted in the atmosphere that affecting your 'Biology' that I should be aware of?" She had scanned but a tricorder and such is only attuned to certain parameters, Nature of alien worlds could throw a 'Curve' or two.
"My health is good." Jayde hesitated. "I've heard a number of women talk about what will happen if we're stuck here permanently. I've seen a number of the crew start to pair up and it got me thinking..." She hesitated again. "If Jason and I are to have children, it will require the assistance of genetics, and I do not know how long we will have the use of the shuttles."
"I am told the power source is fifty years and as long as replicators have replacements, we should get a good twenty years." Velah said. "But to make it simple it is really just keeping the PH levels from Copper Based blood and Carbon-Based blood cells. Once we determine the fetus blood type and keep the levels under natural control, until birth. While you are carrying the baby, we will have the potential to become very close friends as we will be seeing a lot of each other." She winked and raised her cup in a toast. "That is the simple version of saying it is possible and some pre-natal shots to help balance what is required for getting pregnant." She nodded. "It might take a few tries to get it right but not really a problem."
Jayde knew it was more than that, but she wasn't going to argue fertility with the doctor right now. It would take genetic manipulation as copper and iron blood were incompatible.
Sevena had avoided setting up a permanent camp, instead she had taken to roaming around the Starfleet camps, keeping at least one in sight each day and night but at the same time keeping her distance. Her hair had grown long and despite standard Romulan practices she had kept it that way. While she kept her distance, she had also interacted with several of the Starfleet officers, mostly because some of them kept bothering her and others simply refused to allow their resident Romulan to be left out entirely on her own. She kept her possessions to the basics, mostly just what she needed to survive. For now, at least.
Unfortunately, Sevena now marched into the camp with the medical officer cradling a broken arm and wrist, results of a rather bad fall that she had scolded herself for the past several days. Ducking into where the medical officer was, she was surprised to see the commander there as well. "Oh, I didn't mean to interrupt," she said.
"You are not interrupting. I was asking the doctor a question, but I have my answer." She nodded to the arm. "That is far more urgent. Please, have a seat." She moved out of the way so the new arrivals could sit down.
"I need to go check on another camp." Jayde made a hasty retreat.
