Mission: An Angel's Sacrifice
[PREVIOUSLY]
Evelyn shook her head as she moved to one of the forward consoles. "Commander, see to it that the crew are evacuated and get yourself off as well. I'll get to the yacht as soon as I confirm the crew are out of danger," she said.
[CONTINUED]
"I'm not leaving until the crew has been evacuated, either," Jayde said. She checked the status of the crew. Half had already evacuated. Sickbay was lagging behind. "Bridge to sickbay. Evacuate now. Use emergency transporters if you have to."
Csira made sure the distress signal was sent out and left the bridge as ordered.
The circuitry hung from the ceiling where the massive power spikes had fried most of it. Velah had the capsules with the few wounded that were beyond her surgical expertise under these conditions. Three people were all she needed to get out of her Sick Bay first. She stood near the door guiding the wounded out.
"To the escape Pods!" She ordered with that voice she kept set aside most of the time. "Get there safe, help one another if you can." SHe was making her way back through the Sick Bay.
Passing the last patients she pushed her loyal nurse Cindy towards the door. This was a person that next to the safety of her daughter as people Velah cared for.
"I'm Going..." Cindy replied as she ducked in a shower of sparks.
The exploding biobed near them caught Velah off Guard...
"Captain, explosion in sickbay. No one's responding," an officer reported.
Evelyn nodded. "Get to your escape pod. Commander Jayde. Get down to sickbay and help them get off the ship," she said as she managed to get to a console. Taking a slow breath to steady herself she typed in a command code.
"Warning. Auto destruct sequence activated. All hands evacuate immediately," the voice of the computer announced.
Jayde looked at Jason. "Get to a pod," she said before running to the turbolift to get to sickbay.
"If you think I am leaving with you, then you clearly lost your damn mind!" Jason shouted back, following her.
Inside, sickbay was empty, except for the doctor. There wasn't time for niceties. Jayde picked her up and slung her over a shoulder before heading for the nearest scape pod. "Bridge, I have the doctor. Everyone else has evacuated."
Jason followed Jayde, for a time, watching her struggle with the Doctor's unconscious body. "Let me take her." He said as he stopped her and took the Doctor in his arms.
She knew it would be easier for the two of them to take the doctor, and she was also grateful that Jason was there with her.
She made sure the path was clear as she headed for the nearest escape pod. The first one was gone, but she quickly found another. "In here," she said, stepping back for Jason.
Zhara came toward them. "Do you have room?" she asked.
"Yes, we do." Jayde stopped for her to board as well.
"Thank you. Counseling has been evacuated. I was hte last to leave."
[Engineering]
Engineering was in chaos. Whatever was hitting them was hitting them hard and fast. Several consoles had exploded and fires shattered away in various places. Chief Maribu had impacted one of the bulkhead on the first attack,a trickle of blood running down her forehead.
"Everyone out!" She shouted over the smoke once the order to abandon ship had been given. She coughed on the smoke as she shunted all available power to the escape pod ejection system. She could feel the heat as the flames around her grew higher.
"Chief!" One of the engineers shouted. There came no response. For a few tense moments the smoke from the room bellowed out into the corridor with no response. Finally the petite engineer emerged, covered in dirt, coughing badly on the smoke and still holding an engineering kit.
"Let's..." she coughed badly "get out of here". Sge allowed the other engineer to take some of her weight as they rushed towards o e of the escape pods.
"What were you doing?" He asked as he supported her and helped her into a pod.
"Buying us time. Making sure we can still get out of here. I suggest you move, I don't think the core will stay intact much longer now we're not there..." she said. The hatch closed and the pod launched,giving them a view of the badly beaten and crippled vessel.
Evelyn waited until the computer confirmed that the last of the escape pods had been ejected before she nodded. Placing her right hand on the console edge, she reached out to tap the instant detonation command button when another strike from the warbird tossed her to the side.
"Warning, auto destruct capability inoperable. Self destruct sequence aborted."
"Computer, ship's status," Evelyn said as she climbed back to her feet. Another strike rocked the Hyperion wildly but she managed to keep her feet.
"Warp core breach detected. Antimatter containment failing. Warp overload in five minutes."
"Computer, eject warp core and antimatter pods, authorization Knight Epsilon Five" Evelyn snapped. The power level dropped instantly as the automatic systems took over. The Antimatter pods were vented to space and ejected and the warp core was ejected to space as well. The escape pods were far away so that the explosions didn't damage them. They did damage the Hyperion. The ship rocked wildly, throwing Evelyn to the side. She screamed as a sharp pain shot through her side, then blessed darkness.
There was only one planet nearby. The escape pods made their way, more or less, in the same direction. None were aware of what happened to the captain, or the ship.
