ON

Jayde walked into security, looking for Jason. There were times she missed her old position, times she longed for the simplicity of running a department. But she also enjoyed the challenge of being First Officer, and the opportunity to learn new things.

This was not one of those times. She needed to talk to Jason, and he hoped he would listen.

Bodrin looked up from his desk, raising a brow, before leading back in his chair. It was her. It had to be her. Jason often talked about Jayde, sometimes in detail, but to see her in person was something else. He understood the attraction. With a smile on his face, he stood up, and walked over to her. "Commander Jayde?" He said as he approached before holding out his hand. "Brodin... Brodin Fyre. Lieutenant Fyre." Bodrin said, holding onto his smile, before adding. "What can I do for you, Ma'am?"

This was the first time she'd met the lieutenant junior grade. "Yes, I am Mira Jayde. It is good to meet you." She shook his hand. "Is Commander Smoak available?"

"The Commander?! Absolutely." He smiled as he held his hands out slightly before looking over to the back office. "Jay should be in there. I don't know if he is busy, but I am sure he has time for you, Commander." Bodrin gestured in the direction of the office. "Shall we?"

Jayde raised an eyebrow. "Indeed." Jay? The nickname was unfamiliar to her, as was this man's familiarity with her. She wondered what Jason said to him.

Bodrin walked with her, until the office door, then knocked on it. He looked at her and smiled again until the door opened. "Hey, brother. You have a visitor."

Jason opened the door and stopped cold, seeing Jayde on the other side. He looked at her intently until he cleared his throat and looked over to Bodrin. "Thanks, Fyre." He opened the door completely and gesture for Jayde to come in. "Please... come on in, Commander."

The inside of the office wasn't all that different from when she was Chief Security/Tactical. The only major difference was some of the decorations. Jason's accomplishments and metals, as well as, a few things here and there she recognized. There was also a few photos, one in particular, was of Bodrin and Jason at the beach. They were both shirtless and holding surfboards. They looked real close.

Jayde looked around the room, then turned to Jason. "Do you have a few minutes?"

"Of course." Jason replied softly. "Please take a seat."

"Alright." Bodrin said with a smile as he stood outside the office door. "I'm gonna go find something important to do. You give me a holler if you need something." He pointed to Jason and gave him a wink. "Need anything before I go?"

"Yeah." Jason replied softly before adding. "You too go away." He said softly as he closed the door. With a shake of his head, he walked back to his desk and took a seat. "Sorry about Bodrin. He's takes a bit of getting used to, but he's a good officer and trustworthy."

"It is fine," she said. She looked at Jason for a long moment. "We need to talk...I need to talk. To explain." She held up a hand. "Please let me finish before you say anything. This will be difficult enough."

"I was thinking the same thing." Jason replied softly.

She looked down at the desk, unwilling to look at his face as she spoke because she was afraid of what she might see, of his rejection. "Twenty years ago I was someone else. I was angry at the Cardassians, determined to keep fighting. I knew very little of the world outside of Bajor." She glanced up at him for a moment, then looked back at the desk. "We've both explained what happened when we met, the misunderstanding and the missed messages. That is in the past. We cannot change what happened, or why. I am not that person anymore, Jason. I cannot be that person. It has been twenty years. We have both changed. I joined Starfleet and became an officer. I discovered the ways of the Shaolin. It brought me peace and focus. I know that you know all this, but I keep feeling that you want me to go back to the person I was, and I cannot. And I do not know how to deal with it."

"You're right." Jason replied softly, his voice calm. "I haven't been trying to turn you back to that person that I loved when we met. I've just been trying to get back the better part of myself." Jason looked down and cleared his throat a bit, taking in a deep breath before looking back up at her. "The person I was with that made me feel complete, you know. The problem is that I've been trying to push you into getting together and hoping there was something still there from the old spark we shared. Truth is... I've been looking for my perfect wave every since we split. The one that got away. The one I compare all other waves to. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to drive the wedge between us and make you feel like I wanted the old you back. I don't want the old you, just the part of you that stole my heart away. That girl I used to spend all night talking to, sometimes about utter nonsense, while holding her in my arms. The girl I taught how to surf and jet ski. The one who was at my bedside when I was toe to toe with that ugly Klingon and ended up with a gash in my side and refused to leave till I was back at 100%." He smiled a bit and looked at her in the eyes. "That girl wasn't angry when we were together. She wasn't against the world. She was with me and nothing else mattered outside our strange little world." He nodded his head and looked down. "I don't want you to be that angry person. You don't have to rebel and fight like there is no tomorrow, because I like this you. I want to get to know this you. Even if we don't end up back together, you're still someone I think is pretty great." Jason cleared his throat again and looked back to her with a bit of a smile. "I'm sorry I messed you up so bad, back then and now. It wasn't my intention. I was just thinking about myself and, I thought, what we had was still there and we could continue where we left off. I was selfish and only thought of myself. It was stupid and I'm apologize."

"We cannot recreate the old spark, or build on what we had," she said. "We are not the people we were. Too much time has passed." She paused for along moment, then looked up at him. "That does not mean we cannot see if the people we are now can create something new."

"You're right." Jason replied. "Where do we start?"

She said nothing for a long moment. "I do not know. I have not been in this situation before."

"That makes two of us." Jason laughed. "You are pretty different. The old you would have had a strategy before you walked in the door."

"More often I react to the situation at hand because it is rarely what I expect it to be." She'd invested so much emotional energy that she was now feeling shaky and had to once again fight back the tears.

"Yeah... I get it." Jason replied softly. "Me showing up here was definitely an unwelcome surprise. On top of that, I didn't exactly give you the best first impression. I hit a few nerves and, on top of that, couldn't stop making trouble. I can only imagine what you thought of me with everything that's happened since I got on board."

"It is not all your fault. There is an old Chinese proverb that says, May you live in interesting times. These have definitely been interesting." She put a hand over her face, feeling lightheaded. At least she was sitting down.

"Are you okay? Do you need me to call someone from Sickbay for you?" Jason asked with a raised brow. Concerned about her current state.

"No. It is just the emotions and not being able to eat..." She shook her head, then thought better of it. "I will be fine."

"What?!" Jason asked with a raised brow. "What aren't you eating?"

"Much of anything, lately." She waved it off. "I will be fine in a minute."

Jason tapped on a drawer, which unlocked it, and opened it. Inside was a bunch of things, however, tucked in the back was a small box of chocolate he would eat from time to time. He took the small box and placed it on the table, sliding if forward to her. "Have some. It will help your stomach."
