Mission:
Ghost of a Chance: Epilogue
Location: USS Hyperion, Ready Room
Timeline: 1 Week After "Hyperion Bound, Part 5"
The starts streaked by the view port as John sat in his ready room and stared through the window. It had been a full week since the Romulan outlaws had attempted to seize the Hyperion, one week since John had given the orders that had left Ael'Isha T'Vek and her crew on the asteroid and sent her ship on auto pilot into the heart of a nearby star. It had been a simple solution, one that had left little evidence and had the hopes of being the less evil of all of the possible solutions that had been presented at the time. John sighed. There had been no right course of action, and the actions of several officers on board had made the situation a dangerous one on top of the fact that it had been a difficult situation to begin with.
Now, John turned back to his desktop monitor and stared at the screen. A full report of the entire incident was on the screen, waiting to be transmitted to Starfleet Command. There was no doubt that Sevena had sent her own report, and John had asked Commander Jayde to investigate to see if there was anything they might be able to get the Hyperion's resident Romulan to divulge, but he wasn't holding out much hope. The Romulan could be tight lipped and distracting when it came to not giving out secrets, but it was worth a try. He finally reached out and hit the 'Send' button and waited for the report to be transmitted. Now, all that was left was to wait.
-- 5 hours later --
"Bridge to the captain. Sir, there's an incoming transmission from Starfleet Command," the voice of the duty officer cut through the silence of the ready room.
"Put it through," John said as he turned his chair toward the desk and waited for the screen to light up. The image of an admiral he wasn't familiar with filled the screen.
"Captain Theisman, I'm Admiral Reynolds. I hope I didn't interrupt anything," the admiral said.
"Not at all, Admiral, I'm just going through reports and paperwork," John said, the lie tasting like ash in his mouth as he spoke.
"Good. Captain, we've gone over your report. Considering the circumstances, we believe a full in person debriefing is required. I've been empowered to order you to bring the Hyperion to S'klar Station. It's a Romulan outpost station roughly twenty days from your current position. We've already dispatched someone to meet you there. We will need you and your first officer to be present for the meeting. I understand the Romulans are sending someone as well. They will of course have full access to the proceedings as well. Do you understand?"
"Yes, Sir," John said with a nod.
"Very well. Starfleet Command, out," Reynolds said before the screen went blank and was replaced with the Starfleet emblem.
John leaned forward and rubbed his eyes before tapping the comm. "Theisman to bridge. Alter heading and change course to Romulan outpost S'klar Station, maximum warp. Engage when ready," he said.
There was a pause on the other end of the line before the duty officer replied with a slightly confused "Aye, Sir.". John closed the line and stood, walking over to the view port. Staring out at the stars as the Hyperion gracefully changed course, he wondered just what was in store for the Hyperion when she arrived at S'klar Station.
