Mission: The Genesis Legacy

[CONTINUED]

[OLD]

"Ideally, no," Zhara said. "The ideal is to find one mate and stay with him for life. However, the reality is that a person can have multiple mates over a lifetime. Whether they fall out of love nad move on, or one of them dies."

[NEW]

Kaiyo raised an eyebrow. "I see" she said. "Glacet's only have one mate" she replied. "Well... females only have one mate. Our Males have a Setai comprised of Six Females to form one complete Setai... your closest thing is... family?" she explained. "In short, one Male Glacet would have Six Females. However our reproductive chances are that of 1/6th. Meaning you have a one in six chance of bearing a Male child" she paused. "Its... complicated"

"Indeed," Liang said. ""China once had that problem, more females than males. It was...difficult." She took another sip of her wine and stretched out for more massage.

Élan wasn’t quite sure how to approach the current topic. The closest problem she could relate with was the host to symbiont ratio that the Trill home-world had, and unfortunately that issue still created more internal problems than the majority of the Federation knew about. Settling down more into her hot tub, she took a sip of her tea and listened.

Zhara finished her mud bath and carefully rinsed off, making sure she got all the mud out of her bathing suit before she moved on to the massage table, where she was met with another bottle of wine. "Was the plan to get us all drunk?" she asked Mara.

"Well, not really, but wine makes every girls night out even better," Mara replied as she took a sip of her glass. "Except for Trills," she added as a matter of apology towards Elan Val.

“It’s alright, Trills aren’t the only species that can’t have alcohol,” Élan said as she raised her glass of tea. “If it helps any, Val and I both wish we could drink to excess tonight.”

"The right wine makes the evening," Zhara corrected. "And this is definitely the right wine."

Kaiyo who was submerged in the freezing water, only her eyes and forehead above the waterline stared at the wine glass on the edge of the pool. Eventually she raised up slightly so she could speak.

"What is Wine?" she asked simply. "Is it some sort of fruit juice?" she asked raising en eyebrown in confusion before poking the glass a few times with her finger as if it was some strange object. "Is this the magical juice which I have heard makes Human Females happy?" she asked.

"Well, it doesn't just affect human females, but it is one of beverages that can affect females," Mara said as she finished her glass. Looking at the strange science officer, she smiled. "Alcohol doesn't affect your species in a negative manner, does it?"

Kaiyo raised an eyebrow again in confusion. "I am... unsure" Kaiyo replied. "Although. I am assigned to explore" she explained. She gently picked up the glass and took a sip. It had a strange flavour, but then she drank a little more.
"Oooooooooh" she said. "This has an unusual flavour...." she explained. "Does this Alcohol always make things blurry and spin around?" she asked sinking down back into the water slightly.

"Question answered on that one." Velah said as she caught Kaiyo and made sure she was safe on a palce to sit on the steps. "I can but I think CPR might end our little get together Little One." She winked and stayed closer. "And yes it does make the room spin... when you have had enough." She gently took the wine and set it aside. "Electrolytes for you young lady."

"Electro what?" Kaiyo asked as she rested her head on the steps and curled up like a cat, tucking her tail around her body. Unbeknown to everyone, but that is how Glacets slept, curled up in their own tails and all curled up like a cat. "I think..." she hiccupped. "I'm going to nap now..." she said. "Before I start singing a song from the Human known as Shakira..."

"Yes. Sleep it off," Zhara said in a quiet, singsong voice. "Next time, we'll give you grape juice. You shouldn't drink too much if you're not used to it."

"I will... endeavour to do so..." Kaiyo responded as her eyes closed and she soon fell asleep making soft purring sounds as she slept, occassionally her tail twitching as if she was dreaming. In all she looked rather cute curled up purring and dreaming.

"What should we tell her she did in the morning?" Velah askesd as she raised her glass.

“I’d say let’s see if she even remembers anything,” Élan suggested as she watched the Glacet sleep. It reminded her of how Terran cats slept, and she had to resist the urge to go over and start petting the tiny science officer. The science officer side of both her and Val had already concluded that it was a strong possibility that Glacets had never produced or imbibed any form of alcohol; if they had, it was no-where near as strong as the alcohol that other species produced. “Well, I guess we know not to give her any special recipe items if we ever go camping.”

Liang giggled. "We should at least let her know that she should not drink alcohol."

"Or at least she should stick to the synthetic stuff," Mara said with a hint of sadness. "Well, at least now we know to bring along additional beverages next time."

"Perhaps we could create a special drink just for her?" Zhara said. "One that she might appreciate and won't be strong enough to make her sleep. I hear there are some lovely virgin drinks."

“I wonder if I can study her genetic profile and come up with something that she can drink without having side effects,” Élan said thoughtfully. Thinking about the genetic lab and the equipment there, she knew that it wouldn’t be too difficult, or rather, it shouldn’t be. Shaking her head, she finished her tea and moved to the edge of the hot tub, keeping her entire body below the water. “So, I hate to bring this up since the night is still young, but just how are we going to get her to her quarters?”

Zhara raised an eyebrow. "I think you should see what you can do genetically. It would definitely be worth a try."

"Carry her. She doesn't weigh that much," Liang said. "She won't remember it, and we can't possibly leave her here. Well, we could, but we shouldn't."

“I’ll take her to her quarters,” Élan said as she set her glass down and stood in the hot tub, stretching before she climbed out. Grabbing her towel, she dried off and pulled her robe on. “I don’t suppose anyone knows if she had a robe or anything or where she put it if she did, do they?” she asked as she gently scooped up the tiny science officer in her arms.

"I think she came in her swimsuit," Zhara replied.

Élan nodded and grabbed a towel, wrapping Kaiyo up in it before she adjusted how she was carrying the tiny warrant officer. She could only imagine what everyone who she encountered between the holodeck and Kaiyo’s quarters would be thinking. “Don’t get into too much trouble while I’m gone,” Élan said to the others with a wink before she started out of the holodeck.

Zhara moved next to the hot tub to have a long soak and more wine. "I must say, this has been an excellent idea, Velah."

Liang sighed. "Alcohol in small quantities is an enjoyable pasttime, but there can be too much of a good thing. Therefore, I will bid you all a good night. I have training in the morning and do not want to set a bad example." She hiccuped once and giggled as she walked out of the holodeck, weaving just a little.

"Being an Orion and able to drink everyone under the table sure does end parties early." Velah remarked.

"Well, not everyone is done for the night," Mara said as she climbed out of the mud bath and rinsing off. Seeing that her glass was empty, she poured another and frowned at the now empty bottle. Shrugging her shoulder in an 'oh well' manner, she finished the wine off. "Well, if we're done for the evening, I guess I need to go find a good book to read and fresh bottle to drink," she said.

"Or you two could chat over a bottle of wine," Zhara said. She had enough pampering for the night and relished the idea of some solitude. "I think I will enjoy a book, some soft music and a cuddly dog. Good evening, ladies." She wrapped the turban around her damp hair, put on her caftan, and walked out of the holodeck.

"I have a daughter at a friend's place, I really do not want to curl up with a book, a little wine and someone to talk with is what this doctor would order."Velah suggested. "Just a little longer and The Captain and other males can just wait for Girl time to end."

"Well, I certainly don't have any complaints about staying out a bit longer. Why don't we head to the lounge? The bartender on duty is keeping a bottle of an excellent vintage on ice for me. I'd be more than happy to share," Mara said as she led the Orion medical officer out of the holodeck spa setting and down the corridor towards the turbolift and the lounge.
