Veleah had been headed home to her quarters when she received the urgent message to call the JAG handling her case. She hurried back to her Office as it was closer to Sick Bay than her quarters.
“What is so important Steve?” Velah asked.
“The face of her JAG representitive looked less than his usually confidant self. “Daniel has made a case to see Sassi.” Steve told her. “The presiding judge decided that he had the custody rights to see his daughter and his being on a ship hindered that...”
“Then he should hev stayed on the Station where it is safe to keep Sassi.” Velha cut in.
“Not so fast.” Steve raised his voice to cut her off. “He has accumulated some time and so thee Judge decided that Sassi is old enough to be able to see her Father on the star ship.”
“DO you know the dangers of shipping her out like that?” Velah protested. “Being an adult and making the coice is one thing but she is 13.”
“There are younger children on the star ships so that will not fly.” Steve reminded her. “The accumulated time will be the summer and he can have the time if he likes and he had put in requests for her to be allowed to ...”
“He is going to put his daughter in danger just to spite me is what he is doing.” Velah protested.
“He wants t see his daughter Velah and you cannot really blame him.” Steve interjected. “He is a good father , just his duty station is away from her and only now has he made a good case to get her back.”
Velah stewed for a few seconds; he is a good father when he is around, it would not be all that hard for him to adapt to having her around yet he is on a star ship heading out on patrol. The timetables of a star ship are not condusive to being like a transport and arrrive on the scheduled date and time. The years Velah spent on Star Ships herself told her that.
“Can't we appeal this...” Velah started.
“Not this time Vee.” Steve told her. “He has rights same as you.”
“How soon is he going to request her?” Velah asked.
“I think a week, the ship is scheduled to arrive at the Station soon and he will pick her up then.” Steve tried to gauge the temper of Velah, when she is quiet she is really mad.
“Fine, get me the medical Chief on the ship.” Velah said. “I want to know who will be taking care of her?”
“There is no Chief at the moment.” Steve pointed out. There is a search to fill it on short notice.”
“Fibne Steve; you have me sending my daughter out on a star ship ; into space and there is not even a Chief Medical Officer to assure me things will be alright?” She scowled.
“The Hyperion is a good vessel; good Commanding Officer there...” Steve tried to pacify her a bit.
“Thanks for telling me .” She cut the line. “That man is going to pay for this .” Velah cursed under her breath. "I knew he was bad news, what did it seem attractive at the damn time?"
