An Angel's Sacrifice
Location: Planetoid
Timeline: Day Two
ON
Jayde woke early. There was much to be done today. They had plenty of water, but they needed food and shelter. She also needed to talk to the doctor about medications. She checked the horizon. The sun was just coming up. There might be time for a quick swim before she began her day. It wasn't surfing, but that might come in time.
She sat up and kissed Jason on his shoulder. "Going swimming," she whispered. She'd left her uniform jacket somewhere the day before. She'd need to find it, but for now she had her undershirt and pants. They would do. She grabbed them and headed for the water.
Sevena rarely slept anymore, so she was out swimming early in the lake. Unlike the Starfleet officers, she didn't have decent undergarments to use for swimming, so she usually stripped in order to swim. It was also a reason for her to be out early, since some of the males liked to stare. It was still fairly early, so Sevena decided to make another lap before getting out.
Jayde noticed someone else in the water. She stripped down to her underwear and waded in, calling "Hello" to the other swimmer.
Hearing the voice, Sevena instantly made a surprised noise and submerged into the water until only her head was above the surface. "Go away!" she snapped, hoping it wasn't another one of the Starfleet males. They were impossible to get rid of sometimes.
"It's Commander Mira," Jayde called out. "Can I have five minutes? Then I'll leave you alone." A quick dip would suffice, if her presence was a problem.
"Commander, I didn't know you were an early riser," Sevena said as she adjusted her position in the water. Cautiously, she searched the shoreline.
"I am alone," Jayde assured her. At least Jason was asleep when she left. "I came for a swim. I will keep my distance, unless you would prefer me to return later."
"You are...welcome to stay," Sevena finally said. "I thought you were one of your males."
"Ah. I don't blame you. I would rather not run into a male while I'm swimming." Unless it was Jason. Jayde waded out until it was deep enough to swim. The water was unusually clear. She hoped they could keep it that way. Today they'd have to find other water sources and divide into groups. There were too many of them to live in one place. There was no telling how long they'd be here.
A few feet from them a small tiny head popped up yhr top of which was covered in blue fur. With the extreme heat of the planet Kaiyo, the resident and only Glacet had been spending most of her time either by or in the water. Her clothing whilst in the water was hung over a nearby tree branch, for Glacets usually swam naked. It didn't bother her, her species were used to such things and a Setai group (one male to six females which formed the family) would usually spend their night cuddled together with no clothing. A Glacets Setai bond was very strong and to them it was natural.
Kaiyo had some sort of fish in her mouth which she had just caught under the water. Being a natural swimmer and hunter her instincts had kicked in and she had been catching the fish in the lake for several hours to feed.
"Oh" she said spotting the other two females taking the fish out of her mouth, deep visible teeth marks now embedded into its scales. "Do you guys hunt fish too?" She asked as she bobbed up and down in the water slightly.
"Did you have that thing in your mouth? Romulans scale, clean and cook fish before we eat it," Sevena said, her expression one of mixed emotions.
"Yeah. I caught it that way..." Kaiyo explained as she put the fish upto her mouth and began to rip chunks off with her teeth before eating them. "Its not too bad really, although the ones on my home planet are better" she smiled. "The seaweed stuff down there isn't bad either, want me to fetch you some? I tried it earlier..."
"I would like to analyze the seaweed and see if it's safe for most humanoids," Jayde said, a little surprised to see Kaiyo. "We'll need to catalog all edible food on the planet and this is a good place to start."
"Well its quite tasty. A little chewy, but that's normal, at least for a Glacet, but we have tolerances to such things" Kaiyo grinned. "I'll bring you some" she said and with hardly a splash the tiny Glacet quickly disappeared under the water.
"I think I have spent enough time in this water," Sevena said, her face a little green. The alien eating a raw freshly caught fish had unsettled her stomach and she wasn't interested in seeing more at the moment.
"Yes. I need to see how the camp is doing," Jayde said. "And set up several permanent settlements. We can't all stay in the same place, and we need to prepare to be here a while." She hoped it wouldn't be long, but she was expecting it to take at least a year before anyone came looking for them. Without the captain, Jayde was the senior officer and therefore in charge. At least for now.
"That's a lovely thought," Sevena muttered as she made her way to the shore to gather her clothes and dress. The thought of being stranded on a near lifeless rock with a crew of Starfleet officers wasn't a very endearing thought, but it could have been worse.
Jayde gave her a few minutes and then got out of the water, dressed, and headed back to talk to Jason before calling a meeting with the senior staff.
