Pathways
Location: Divaro's Quarters/Engineering.
Timeline: Current

The first thing Divaro noticed when reporting to the Hyperion was how much larger she was than his previous posting. She was nearly a hundred meters longer and had 18 decks as opposed to 12 on the Indianapolis. The Indy had been his home for the past four years and in some ways he would miss serving aboard her. In others, not so much. His assignment to the Indianapolis from Starbase 171 had been the beginning of the end for his marriage to Velah. Truth be told, the marriage may have been headed for the rocks anyway, but the transfer had insured it. She had a chance to become the Chief Medical Officer there, so she had stayed.
They had tried to maintain a long-distance relationship and it had worked--for a while, anyway. But then, the video chats and texts had come less and less frequently and finally stopped altogether. And he knew it wasn't all Velah's fault. He had become lax as well, and after about a year, she had filed for and been granted a dissolution of their marriage. Their daughter Sassi was thirteen now and he had kept in touch with her for the past several years. In fact, the last time they had spoken, she had expressed an interest in coming to stay with him. He had explained to her that he was in the process of being transferred to the Hyperion and that once he was settled in and knew what the ship's assignment would be, then he would discuss it further with her.
There was one reason that he had hated to leave the Indy though...and that was Lieutenant Melony Landers. She too was a thirty-four year old divorcee' and as such it had given them common ground. A statuesque blonde at 5' 11" --with a figure that had to be seen to be believed--who worked in the security division, he had been attracted to her almost immediately. It had begun as a friendship but had progressed beyond that beginning with a night where she had invited him to her place for dinner. It had started with dinner and culminated with him waking up next to her the following morning. After that, they were pretty much inseparable. When he had received his orders to the Hyperion, they had tried to get her assigned as well, but were unable to do so. And even though they had agreed in the beginning that their affair was 'no strings attached', it had been hard to leave her--damned hard.
And now he was here. He had yet to officially report aboard--he supposed that he would be reporting to the XO, one Commander Eva Grey. He had yet to meet her but from what he had heard, she was one squared-away officer. Also, not too hard on the eyes, either, if he could believe the pictures he had seen of her.
Once he'd finished stowing his personal effects, he decided to check out Main Engineering.
====== Ten minutes later ======
As he entered main engineering, he saw several crew members going about their jobs. He didn't know them yet, but he soon would. His first need would be to interview each of his engineering officers and appoint one of them as his assistant CEO. He had already glanced over their files and the one that stood out right at this time was Lieutenant Karen Walker.
The Chief Engineer's office was on the main level, tucked back in one corner and positioned so that the entire area could be seen from his desk which faced the window overlooking the main area. There were two chairs facing his desk and a small sofa along one wall to facilitate meetings with his staff of engineers. And there was also a replicator so he could have his coffee. It wouldn't be fresh-brewed as he preferred but it was better than nothing at all.
Once he had finished examining his new office, he began to check out the main floor of engineering itself. Scattered around the walls were consoles which controlled the myriad systems that controlled the Hyperion. There were controls for the environmental system, waste reclamation, the ship's EPS system and the like. Quite different in both layout and capabilities from the Indianapolis he would guess.
Based on what he had seen so far, the Hyperion was proving to be a major step up from the Indianapolis. With this posting came larger quarters, a bigger engineering staff--and greater responsibilities as well. Was he up to it? He thought so--but only time would tell.
But right now he needed to arrange a meeting with Commander Grey so that he could officially report in.
